Camera constantly recording me.

The Face ID feature on my phone is off but my infrared light is constantly flashing. It also appears my phone is recording. I see these lights through my infrared home security camera.

however, the indicator lights made to alert me that my camera and microphone are operating are not coming on. I reset my phone to factory settings, now the indicator lights are working when I select record or video BUT when I’m not using my camera and these lights show up in my infrared security camera the exact same way. There’s no difference. I’ve turned on the video camera and turned out the lights and view led it through the infrared camera and it lights up weather or not I turned it on myself. Does this mean it’s always recoding me? Also this can’t be good for the eyes can it? Always having these lights flashing in your eyes?

since buying my phone I started seeing hundreds of tiny black spots. The eye doctor said the gel on the back of my eyes are tearing away causing me to see all these spots. Coincidence ?

Hello again ~ When it comes to medical issues my pat and always answer is to let your medical doctor/doctors make the call .Make your doctor aware and let him/her give you a medical opinion. With you health none of us here are qualified to answer. I also just took one of my cameras and both iPad and 2 different iPhones and I am unable to produce the effect you are describing. Take both in for a checkup.

How on earth can you call that a comparison?

It was a simple comparison that more devices than your phone emit infrared beams, which can be seen/recorded with a camera. That's all.

Sorry, but when people phones are hacked, and it does happen, where does that data go?

99.99999999% of Apple iOS device intrusions are getting into the user's iCloud data from another device. Not the user's phone itself. For the extremely small number of direct hacks, those have been attributed to very expensive state sponsored software, such as Pegasus.

Are you that important they would use million dollar plus software and risk being caught hacking into your phone? The more it gets used, the more likely it will be discovered (and has been). Not what the user's of such software ever want since that means Apple will figure out how to block it, and they have to start over.

Where does such data go? Well, if someone is in your account, their device acts exactly as yours does. They don't need to see or ever access your phone. All of your pictures, videos, contacts, emails, messages is right there in your iCloud data. Once in your account, they can copy your data anywhere they want. But again, do you have anything that important someone would do this and do their best to keep it a secret as long as possible?

but I have witnessed my phone coming out of sleep mode and scrolling on its own through sensitive documents.

A rather common issue with a heavily used touch screen. It's much more likely the screen needs to be replaced than anything nefarious going on.

Rather than always going to the deepest end of the conspiracy pool, try looking for logical explanations, first.

There is surprisingly little to be found online regarding the iPhone's infrared sensor, other than what others have already suggested here to turn it off. The only other thing I found was on this forum by fellow user, Dogcow-Moof:

Try pressing both the side and either volume buttons simultaneously for two seconds to bring up the Power Off/Medical ID/Emergency Call screen, and don't pick anything.

Not sure if that will help, but it's worth a try.

That's precisely how Face ID works. It's not magic, it needs to project a bunch of dots and then measure them with a camera-like sensor (that isn't a FaceTime camera).

Also as blunt as @KiltedTim can be, I have trusted his take in terms of my own concerns in the past. It is possible to be hyper vigilant. Following a nasty bit of malware late 2020 I started to jump at shadows and came to realise as dismissive as some people may seem, they can also be trusted.

Meaningless drivel. So her camera picked up an infrared flash. So what? She jumps to a conclusion with zero evidence, other than capturing an infrared flash. Your TV remote puts out an infrared flash every time you push a button on the controller, too, which can also be seen with a camera.

More importantly, just where you think these gigabytes of recording data is going? Surely not to your phone. It will fill up in minutes. Surely not to your iCloud account since that would also fill up quickly. Surely not sent somewhere else via your cellular connection as it would show up in your data usage.

In Settings > Face ID & Passcode is Face ID used for any of the options listed there? If yes, then the Face ID camera will always be active and a camera can see the flashes, but your eyes typically cannot. And this is normal, not some conspiracy or malfunction and indicates your phone is operating normally and as it was designed to operate.

Hello ~ I would check your security cameras and make sure they and your system are not malfunctioning….my security camera will blink when it is no longer connected to the sync module or the internet has gone down before backup kicks in It has nothing to do with your iPhone. As far as your vision this is a technical forum and your doctor should be the one on whom you depend for medical advice.
