Volume being mounted twice, showing up in finder as "Read Only"

I have an external buffalo drive.

Since updating its filesystem to APFS, it began mounting 2 versions of the drive.

One called "Buffalo 1TB" and one called "Buffalo 1TB - Data".

As far as I can tell, they are identical except that "Buffalo 1TB" is mounted as a read only filesystem.

The volume with the "- Data" on it, is read/write... but in Finder, only the read-only file system is being displayed.


Going to disk utility I see the screen shots attached.


I would like to eliminate the duplicate mounting and make sure the only mounted version of the filesystem is R+W. Can anyone assist?

Are you booting from the external Buffalo drive? It appears to be a startup disk

It is not a duplicate. The read only is a sealed volume of the basic operating system and can't be changed by the user. The Data one is that one that is read-right. The non-data one does not show in Finder
