I sound like Darth Vader on any external microphone

Zoom, Skype, MS Teams, Whatsapp for OS, Facetime Audio or Facetime Video

ONLY with an external microphone. I have tried three different sets of airpods and two external microphones that have to be plugged into the audio jack. Issue is consistent across above apps and across any external microphone device, whether wired or bluetooth.

When using the internal Macbook microphone and internal speakers, all is well.

I hear fine, but the people on the other end say my voice is low, muffled and choppy.

I have called Apple Support twice, and visited my local Genius Bar twice.

The only suggestion I got was to maybe down rev my OS from Monterey to Big Sur because it kinda sorta started somewhere around when I upgraded to Big Sur.

Anyone have any ideas?

Had a talk to Apple Support today. Got an advice to:

boot up in safe mode (turn off -> power button + hold shift key just after power button push, and still holding up to booting up (red safe mode label must appear at the status bar))
reconnect headphones (forget device - connect new one with holding button on case)
try the mic, reboot

Seems that it helped, at least for now, will update status later.
