macOS Monterey 12.2 does not mount Sd Card on iMac 27" (Intel 2019)

The problem occurs also in Recovery where the Disk Utility doesn't see it.

I cleared the NVRAM, resetted the SMC and the problem persists.

I reinstalled macOS Monterey 12.1 and the Sd Card is mounted with no problem.

I further troubleshooted taking the following steps

  • I made 2 USB bootable disks, one with macOS Monterey 12.2 and the other with macOS Monterey 12.1
  • I wiped clean the Hard Drive and I cleared the NVRAM and resetted the SMC
  • I booted from the macOS Monterey 12.2 USB Installer, I went to the Disk Utility and the Sd Card is not mounted
  • I booted from the macOS Monterey 12.1 USB Installer, I went to the Disk Utility and the Sd Card is mounted with no problem.

So there it is, at least on my iMac, on a clean system, the Sd Card is not mounted on macOS Monterey 12.2 and the problem also exists on macOS Monterey 12.2 Recovery. The previous version of macOS works just fine.

Does anyone else face a similar issue?

my iMac is also a 2019 27inch intel running monterey 12.2. i tested your issue on my machine. when i plug an SD card into the SD slot on the back of my mac, the card won't mount. but if i plug the same card into my SABRENT Multi-Port iMac Hub the card mounts without issue. so as i never use my built in card reader, this is a non issue for me. but since it works for you on 12.2 but not 12.1, i'm going to say that it might be an issue between the hardware and monterey. you may want to Contact Apple for support and service.
