iOS 15.3 battery drain

Battery keeps draining so fast even when the phone is on standby.

Dunno what is this, but since the ios 15 was released, the battery of my iphone 11 (97% of battery health) was dumb.

The phone get really hot in some apps (like instagram while watching stories or reels videos) and the battery just drain like summer rains.

i’ve tried everything that they told me to do, but it doesn’t changed. I was hoping that IOS 15.3 will solve this problem, and nothing happened 🤡

Toon Up ~ 83% indicates an unhealthy battery and is expected after six years. Have the battery replaced and all will be well:

You are correct in one point. If the battery drain is caused by installed junk (8 out of 10 cases) then restoring a backup is pointless.

So

  1. move or import all your photos, videos, documents to an external storage like iCloud or a Mac
  2. DFU the iPhone to pull in fresh iOS copy.
  3. sync the media and documents back and rebuild only the most important apps from scratch excluding security apps.

Do not restore backup, though you might want to make one just in case.

Hello,

These are the standard steps for short battery life. See if anything helps:

1) Have you tried a restart?  If not, do it now.

2) Go to Settings > Battery > BATTERY USAGE BY APP to see the apps that are consuming your battery.

3) Check “Battery Health” in the link:

iPhone Battery and Performance

4) If all else fails, consider a battery replacement:

Good luck.

The helpers here very often suggest leaving it a few days.

If you have iCloud Photos on for example and upgrade from iOS14 to 15 then all of your photos not only need to re-curate and do a face, place, and object indexing, it then needs to do this in the iCloud over wi-fi.

Search your photos for "bicycle" or "boat". It will find photos with bikes or boats in them. That kind if AI needs a lot of power to curate.

Here's what I did to fix it (I think but i've had progress). I'm 99% it was software, either a rogue app, but my calibration was super off and I couldn't recalibrate until I did steps below:

Do a backup to icloud

Reset the phone completely, do not install backup. As a "fresh" phone, run the battery down to 0% (lots of good draining videos on youtube for this)

Install backup from icloud, and test it out.

So far it's worked for me, I was able to get battery down to 1% for first time since ios 15 came out.

I wanted to wait for at least one full charging cycle to see if it really works before possibly sending people down a rabbit hole but here’s the poop on what I did. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Then I turned off the Peak Performance Capability and Optimized Battery Charging. As far as I know these features were added for newer models of iPhone and not fully compatible with the iPhone 6s.

So far so good but I’m not fully convinced yet that it will fix my issue until I go thru a couple charging cycles.

Exactly the same issues with all phones in our family - regardless of phone age (various), battery health (70-85% across devices), usage (mix of apps and usage patterns), turning tracking off and on, changing mix of apps in use at any one time, using the latest OS release, starting and restarting phones, this issue persists. It’s obviously something at the operating system level in OS15 - fiddling with phone settings is a waste of time. Been frustrated for weeks since phones randomly go from full battery to nil in minutes, and sometimes they don’t. The inconsistency is nuts, and none of the responses from Apple actually address this issue - could someone from Apple please respond with anything other than a standard form letter? Thanks!

I have written an answer to this and what this update did to my near new iPhone 12. Did the same thing as yours, and rendered the device inoperable for a day. Last night it came right on its own. It is clear that the support desk know nothing about this, or the effects of the update. As I got pat answers from them.

So, leave the phone for as long as you can to see if it comes good. From what I have been reading the updates need to reconfigure the entire indexing system. Something you would think Apple Support would be aware of, rather than telling me to uninstall everything then to a reset and reinstall... which I did not do.

Hope this helps.

My iPhone and battery were running perfect until I updated to iOS 15.3 just 2 days ago...

Yesterday morning my phone was charged to 100% as it is every morning and there was absolutely Nothing Opened or Running on it as I don't have time to be on it in the mornings, plus, Everything gets cleared/closed Prior to charging.

Plus, I don't Download, Upload or whatever load. I don't even have all the Apps that originally came on my phone at time of purchase bcuz I don't use alot of apps.

I have no music etc either!

Anyway, I unplugged my phone from the Charger, I went to work and by 12:00 - after being at work for only 3 hours, I went to use my phone that was in my car on a cool day for the 3 hours and to my surprise, the Battery was at 1% and the phone was quite Hot even tho the car was Cool!

So that IS quite a FAST battery drain and who knows, it could've been less than 3 hours. It just happened to be 3 hours when I went out to my car to use and look at my phone..

And now today, I see the battery Draining super Fast again, (From 100% down to 21% in less than 30 minutes) and with NOTHING Opened or being used. So I check my Battery Life and it says that my battery is "Severely Degraded" and "Needs Service"???

Again, there is Nothing opened on my phone!

I was just waiting for a business call!

And Yesterday, after Charging my phone again, I did a Restart and a Force Restart as suggested as a possible Fix, and obviously it hasn't helped due to how Fast the Battery went Down again today!

Apple definitely Needs to FIX THIS BATTERY ISSUE that's been happening Only since Apples Recent iOS Update, and especially since each of us on here are Not the 1 and only who are Having this Battery Issue SINCE Only Updating our iPhones as per Apples Request!!

So, for someone to say it's Not a Battery Issue, I beg to differ and say it IS a Battery Issue and that Issue has only been caused via Apples Recent iOS Update!

I wish I could Go Back to the Previous iOS version bcuz this iOS 15.3 version is Horrible!

Apple has really been Failing lately with its iOS Software Updates!!

I wonder if it's someone New to Apple who doesn't know any better and is faking it til they make it, or IF it's someone working for Apple purposely targeting iOS users?

Kinda makes one wonder, especially with all these Update issues going on After Updating!?!

Come on Apple, READ our Reviews and please put out a FIX for this BATTERY Issue, especially since the Majority of us are having the Same Battery Issue other than those who seem to think it's Not a Battery Issue.....

In my opinion, It's a Battery Issue caused by the iOS 15.3 Update!
