iOS 15.3 battery drain

Battery keeps draining so fast even when the phone is on standby.

Dunno what is this, but since the ios 15 was released, the battery of my iphone 11 (97% of battery health) was dumb.

The phone get really hot in some apps (like instagram while watching stories or reels videos) and the battery just drain like summer rains.

i’ve tried everything that they told me to do, but it doesn’t changed. I was hoping that IOS 15.3 will solve this problem, and nothing happened 🤡

Toon Up ~ 83% indicates an unhealthy battery and is expected after six years. Have the battery replaced and all will be well:

That's exactly what happened to my iPhone 8.

I keep my phone updated all the time and this is the 1st time I've had serious issues with an iOS Update...

My phone not only went from my battery still being 92% after almost 4 years, due to my not using it for alot of stuff other than important calls, texting my kids and the odd google search, but it also said that my battery was in Severe need for Service!

And the fact that it Drains alot Faster now with the 1st time going from 100% down to 1% in less than 3 hours!

It's not Draining that fast now but it's still Draining alot Faster than it used to.

My phones battery would last 2-3 days, now I don't even get 12 hours out of a full battery charge!

And I absolutely Know without a doubt that it is from the iOS 15.3 Update, so I'm

Totally Not Impressed with the iOS 15.3 Update!!

Just sad that they won't admit it or do something about it, especially when there's others having the same or similar issues!

Another user here with two iPhone SEs with battery life killed by 15.3 and not improved by 15.4. My original version SE will no longer last much over half a day without charging, lucky it's a backup phone. There's no point talking about what apps are draining or how old the phones are or how battery health is, as both phones were fine until the day 15.3 installed. Very poor show from Apple.

I was in the store on 1/30 for an unrelated issue and they ran diagnostics, max capacity was at 96%. I also had some apps crashing so they recommended updating IOS. I was running 15.2, updated to 15.3 that night. In a matter of 3 days, my max capacity is at 87% and my phone dies in less than 6 hours. Most of that time it is on standby. Today I called support, they ran diagnostics and said my battery was fine, phone was at 26% charge, died in 1 hour while in standby mode the phone time. It’s insane my phone is 1 1/2 years old and now the battery is **** because of their update.

I thought it was JUST ME! I had it taken too the Apple Store in a nearby mall cause something got stuck in the charging port. The employee ran diagnostics and everything came up fine. But when I get home I have similar problems.

The phone gets very warm and when I charge it, it always chugs when it goes from 90-100%! And when I left it on overnight, the battery dipped when I check the health.

My iPhone is the 12 Pro for reference, hopefully Apple releases an update that fixes this, or compensates by giving people having this issue a free battery replacement.

I recently purchased iPhone 13 pro. My battery health is 100%. After updating to ios 15.3, I’ve noticed my battery is draining way too quickly. Previously my phone used to last for 26 hours approximately with normal usage. Now it barely lasts for 14 hours(including standby time)with minimum use.

Even when the phone is on standby mode, I am loosing 7-8% of battery with no apps running in the background.

Alancito, you are aware of the fact that 15.2 and 15.3 are not listed in the "iOS Version" drop-down menu. Some countries are not listed either (mine isn’t). Do you really believe that Apple are reading the feedback? It would be nice if they did. I sincerely doubt they do.

So you will understand that 9GB of code needs beta testing as well as the alpha testing that you maybe are involved in. With 2 million apps to choose from how many hours would you need?

I repeat, iOS15.3 has no problem, but some of those 2 million apps may well have.

Apple releases developer betas for them to test their creations.

The devs are responsible for detailed beta testing.

When Macrumors, Forbes and Apple Insider report major battery problems I may believe them.

Update, on my update...

It took from 4am until last night, but my iPhone 12 Pro Max has rectified itself. To be clear: The phone is a year old, but sat unused so when I got it, it was near brand new. Battery Health at 100%, now at 99%.

This issue has happened to me with my old handset, and iPhone 8 Plus. And would come right after a day or two. My beef is this: Why doesn't Apple warn of this? Do they not know this may happen? Or is likely to happen? Also, when I talked to two different people via Apple support, did they not know of this issue either? Why tell me to uninstall everything then reinstall it all? By the way, I didn't do this.

For a huge company like Apple you would think there would be greater care taken at communication with the Apple ecosystem, of which we all inhabit.

Again when the device overheated, I mean it was near burning hot. For much of the day. I could not connect to mobile data at all. The battery drained completely to zero %. Without usage. By far the most extreme example I have experienced in what is now 10 years of Apple fandom.

Lastly, I'd like to thank all those who've posted helpful comments and their own stories too. It really helped me not panic, and to see a pattern too.

many thanks guys.

Have Apple fit a new battery.

If that battery is a fake they may not do the work.

If it is a model 6S you could try to recalibrate it by running it flat with a full brightness video plus flashlight til it shuts down and leave for 1 hour. Then charge it up to 100% and leave on charge for 1 more hour then force restart it.

This will not work on iphone 7 onwards.

I'm running the same iOS on ip12 apart from the little blip at 8pm where I plugged it in to get 15.3.1

Perfectly normal. and you can see how long each hour I was online. The all night usage is my bedside clock display and the optimised charging is also shown.

Apple are not here to hear uour plea but you can reach out to Apple Support directly. You should be able to reach them here: contact Apple Support

Have you heard anything back? My mom's phone does exactly the same since the OS update, and she keeps it plugged in all the time to avoid it randomly dying in minutes - it's nuts. For those who think this is a battery condition issue, we've had other similar experiences with friends and family - various models of phones with battery health ranging from 99% to 77%. It's got nothing to do with battery health or excessive usage - and it's surprising that there's not even been acknowledgement of this issue by Apple.

"...it's nuts. For those who think this is a battery condition issue,..."

There is no single cause. If the evidence you give suggests a duff battery, such as 77% health or draining while turned off, we will suggest a new battery. If the evidence points to incompatible apps or settings we will suggest getting rid of whatever you have installed that needs updating, or is totally unnecessary like antivirus and VPN.

It is NOT iOS in this instance. A billion other users are just fine.
