iOS 15.3 battery drain

Battery keeps draining so fast even when the phone is on standby.

Dunno what is this, but since the ios 15 was released, the battery of my iphone 11 (97% of battery health) was dumb.

The phone get really hot in some apps (like instagram while watching stories or reels videos) and the battery just drain like summer rains.

i’ve tried everything that they told me to do, but it doesn’t changed. I was hoping that IOS 15.3 will solve this problem, and nothing happened 🤡

Hello,

These are the standard steps for short battery life. See if anything helps:

1) Have you tried a restart?  If not, do it now.

2) Go to Settings > Battery > BATTERY USAGE BY APP to see the apps that are consuming your battery.

3) Check “Battery Health” in the link:

iPhone Battery and Performance

4) If all else fails, consider a battery replacement:

Also see these battery charging tips:

Good luck.

Update, on my update...

It took from 4am until last night, but my iPhone 12 Pro Max has rectified itself. To be clear: The phone is a year old, but sat unused so when I got it, it was near brand new. Battery Health at 100%, now at 99%.

This issue has happened to me with my old handset, and iPhone 8 Plus. And would come right after a day or two. My beef is this: Why doesn't Apple warn of this? Do they not know this may happen? Or is likely to happen? Also, when I talked to two different people via Apple support, did they not know of this issue either? Why tell me to uninstall everything then reinstall it all? By the way, I didn't do this.

For a huge company like Apple you would think there would be greater care taken at communication with the Apple ecosystem, of which we all inhabit.

Again when the device overheated, I mean it was near burning hot. For much of the day. I could not connect to mobile data at all. The battery drained completely to zero %. Without usage. By far the most extreme example I have experienced in what is now 10 years of Apple fandom.

Lastly, I'd like to thank all those who've posted helpful comments and their own stories too. It really helped me not panic, and to see a pattern too.

many thanks guys.

The helpers here very often suggest leaving it a few days.

If you have iCloud Photos on for example and upgrade from iOS14 to 15 then all of your photos not only need to re-curate and do a face, place, and object indexing, it then needs to do this in the iCloud over wi-fi.

Search your photos for "bicycle" or "boat". It will find photos with bikes or boats in them. That kind if AI needs a lot of power to curate.

I did the update yesterday because an app was not running right and the customer support told me my phone needed to be on 15.3 update for iPhone in order for my App Store run correctly.. worst thing I ever did ..now my find my phone dies every hour if it’s at 50% if I charge it to 100% then pull it off the charger its dead in two hours this is overwhelming especially sense I can’t use my phone reliably for anything especially with a new baby on the way and the app to monitor the babies room is on my phone!!!🤬🤬😡 Apple needs to fix it or I’m switching back to android. Has anyone heard of an update for a fix for this on his way ..or just more excuses from customer service that your apps are taking up too much space for it to run correctly?

Here's what I did to fix it (I think but i've had progress). I'm 99% it was software, either a rogue app, but my calibration was super off and I couldn't recalibrate until I did steps below:

Do a backup to icloud

Reset the phone completely, do not install backup. As a "fresh" phone, run the battery down to 0% (lots of good draining videos on youtube for this)

Install backup from icloud, and test it out.

So far it's worked for me, I was able to get battery down to 1% for first time since ios 15 came out.

To follow up on my previous post, I have an iPhone 6s running iOS 15.3. Here’s where it currently stands. I charged the phone to 100%. Disconnected the charging cable. Then within an hour the battery level read 1%. It has remained at 1% for just over 48 hours. The phone itself works normally. I can place calls, send texts etc. all the while the battery says 1%. It’s like driving a car with a broken fuel gauge. I cannot see the true power level of the battery. Very strange and I hope an update is released soon to address all of our battery issues with iOS 15.3.

Have Apple fit a new battery.

If that battery is a fake they may not do the work.

If it is a model 6S you could try to recalibrate it by running it flat with a full brightness video plus flashlight til it shuts down and leave for 1 hour. Then charge it up to 100% and leave on charge for 1 more hour then force restart it.

This will not work on iphone 7 onwards.

I have written an answer to this and what this update did to my near new iPhone 12. Did the same thing as yours, and rendered the device inoperable for a day. Last night it came right on its own. It is clear that the support desk know nothing about this, or the effects of the update. As I got pat answers from them.

So, leave the phone for as long as you can to see if it comes good. From what I have been reading the updates need to reconfigure the entire indexing system. Something you would think Apple Support would be aware of, rather than telling me to uninstall everything then to a reset and reinstall... which I did not do.

Hope this helps.

A follow up on battery drain issue , well is worst , I did charge it to 100% when remove from charger it complete shut down , retry and open 3r time it works, but show me battery isn’t charge plug again , it show battery at 99% remove again from charger , shut down completely and same message plug to charger , , this is so frustrating, if Apple don’t know there is a issues with this update then ,,, Houston we have a problem , wish I could go back to the old update

Hello, am facing the same issue since i have updated my 12pro to 15.3. All those options which consumes battery are already turned off.

I have seen other people are also facing the same issue after updating, apple should look into this cause battery is very important component and i feel sick psycho when i see this abnormal behavior of my phone's battery all of the sudden.
