Drives have different names...

Hi, I booted up my Mac Pro with the Option key pressed down. I have 3 drives that appear, but all have a different name than the ones on my desktop.

The names on my desktop are correct. How do I change the names when I boot up with the Option key?

Thanks!

My problem is I am running High Sierra And it's setup Guid and HFS. I am not that up on APFS as I would like to be. I do have an external drive that I run, but it's simply named MAC. I name it when I set it up in disk utilities. But my internal drive I did change the name to Macbook using the right click on the desktop icon. With both drive on, and I boot using option, the names are what I named them. To check out if the name change has to occur only when boot to that drive. I would have to plugin my external drive and try it. I found this which might shed some light on it.https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251461732

Yes, my main internal drive is Monterey and I have 2 external drives for Catalina and Big Sur.

Are you saying that I have to boot up in Catalina and change the name in the Disk Utility's from there and the same in Monterey?

I did change the name in Monterey, but it's still incorrect when I boot up in Option. By the way, the name was changed where you see Data. EX: Home Monterey - Data

Here's something interesting. I attached 2 other pictures.

The Home Monterey - Data is pointed to: /System/Volumes/Data

The Home Big Sur - Data is pointed to: /Volumes/Home Big Sur - Data

Shouldn't the Home Monterey be pointed to: Home Monterey....? Thanks!

Since macOS has changed the how these macOS boot volumes are linked together behind the scenes, it is best to only change the volume name you are currently booted to. Also, I believe macOS has changed the mount point for the Data volume with the different versions of macOS (at least between Catalina and Big Sur/Monterey). Changing the name from while booted from another volume may be why the label is not updated for the Option Boot menu screen.
