I cannot reset my ipod

I cannot reset my apple ipod. I don't have logon information of the previous owner. I have connected to itunes and reset but when finished, it updates the software but will not allow me to set it up as a new device.

If you have a 3G iPod as shown in your profile, you should not have any problem resetting it. (Utilities>Settings>General>Reset iPod) If, on the other hand, the iPod you are talking about is 5G or newer you will not be able to use it without knowing the original logon information.
