iTunes and my new iPhone 13 Max Pro

Before I begin -- just wanted to confirm that all software is up to date on both the phone and laptop.

I just got a new iPhone 13 Max Pro. I noticed not all of my music was on the new phone. I connected to my laptop (iTunes for Windows) and opened iTunes on my laptop. All of my music is on my laptop and, after syncing, all of my music is on my phone. The music plays in both places. However, I noticed under "Devices" on my laptop, when looking at the music that is on my phone:

  1. all of the songs under "Music" are greyed out and many have a dotted circle next to them. I cannot click on them or sort the list, and they will not play from this location.
  2. some of the songs under "Loved" or my Playlists are greyed out with the circle next to them. Others are not. The ones that are not greyed out will play, the others will not.
  3. under Library, I can create a playlist; under Devices, I cannot as the option is greyed out.
  4. under "All Playlists", all of the songs are there and nothing is greyed out. No grey circles.
  5. All the playlists under "All Playlists" have the same number of songs as the same playlists under "Devices."
  6. If I add a song from my library to a playlist, then sync with my phone, the song shows up in all places; however, it is greyed out with a grey circle.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how I can fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Donna

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, DMW-61!

From our understanding, most of your music is greyed out in different locations. We can certainly understand your concern and can help provide some insight.

To start, go through all the steps and information found here: If your songs are grayed out - Apple Support

Since the locations of the greyed out is sporadic, this will be a good place to start. Let us know if anything changes after going through that article.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Hi. Thank you for trying to resolve this issue. Thus far, nothing has worked.

I do not subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, so Sync Library is not an option. I tried Edit > Preferences > Devices > Reset Sync History, since the Reset Sync History was present, however, it didn't appear to do anything.

All of the songs in my Library visible via my laptop are fine. None are greyed out. All of the songs on my phone play perfectly and none are missing. The problem is only viewing my Device via iTunes on my laptop where a random amount of songs are greyed out with the dotted circle. It literally makes no sense. Some of those songs have been purchased recently via iTunes and others are much old.

I'm about to give up trying to resolve the issue. I'm definitely not going to clear off all my songs from my phone to try to start from scratch.
