How do I get my AOL account to be verified in System Preferences, Internet Account?

I use AOL on Safari for emails; I changed my password a few months ago, and now get a message "unable to verify account. If I delete it in accounts, what gets removed?


Someone with that problem on these forums says they deleted it as an internet account and then added it back in. What does that step remove and from where? Or is it a simple matter of adding it back in to reactivate and avoid the error message?


I have High Sierra on my iMac.

Deleting it erases all to do with it on yourMac, but if it's an IMAP account then everything should still be on the server,


Mac's Mail App is not as modern as iOS's Mail app, Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…


Then you may need Ways to securely access AOL Mail…
