Logitech Brio 4K Audio Loop Issue

Following up this thread: Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam for Apple… - Apple Community Now discontinued.

I've been having the same dreaded fast audio loop using my Brio 4K. Finally figured out how to update using their Logitune software here: https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/4402711293335-Download-4K-Pro-Webcam

There's a useful YT explainer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2WUFKwekOo

Still updating but the firmware release notes actually detail the issue so semi-hopeful. Will report back...

I can confirm that the fix, or workaround, for a Logitech Brio is to connect the camera to the Mac via a USB C to USB C cable (so directly to a USB C port).

This was acknowledged by Logitech support. Whether there will be a fix isn't known. I'd say it depends on how deeply the issue is buried in the differences between the USB A and USB C ports on the Mac's hardware or firmware

Thank you so much or sharing the Logi Tune link! I didn't know that software existed. The loop has been ... well ... annoying to say the least. And embarrassing when you're on a call with a lot of people. I just installed the new firmware so hopefully it fixes the glitch. I see your last post was 3/30. Can you confirm you haven't had this issue since then? Also, do you have your camera plugged directly into your Mac or is it in a hub or monitor? I used to have my plugged into my monitor but some people said to avoid the loop, plug it directly into your MacBook. That of course didn't solve it. Hopefully this will!

I had this same issue and sent the brio back. I see that a usb-c to usb-c is the best solution currently. One other option is to ask yourself if you REALLY need the 4k. I decided to pick up the Logi C922x Pro Stream 1080p Webcam for half the cost, and no issues yet. No software download required for this camera which I thought was interesting, but I like that approach because then there is no software issues to cause the audio loop! The macOS system just uses it as a video input device. Simple!

That is very interesting. Does it clear up if you unplug then plug it back in? This is the webcam that Apple sells on their website. One would think that Apple would have tested it thoroughly. Using the Mac Studio has been challenging to get other software and accessories to work.

Hopefully, as the M1 chip becomes more common these hiccups will be resolved. So far 2 of my software applications needed a higher level tech to do work around to get software to integrate on the Studio platform. Thank God for companies who will invest in manpower to support their customers in a very timely manner. I wish Logitech had a more personal response method to integrate this product on the Studio set up. It is especially frustrating to see Apple selling it and troubles still exist.

thanks for your feedback. I did try the c to c cable and it appears to be working. Only testing with various platforms and video conferencing will tell.

Hi @sjsusamn, I haven't tried just unplugging the camera. So far, I reboot the Mac Studio to get it working again. I've seen some posts describing the same experience I've had. My suspicion is the incompatibility is deep in hardware/firmware (possibly in the Mac Studio) so the fix could be difficult to implement.

Your point regarding the camera being sold via the Apple Shop is probably the most ironic part of the whole issue.

The looping problem also occurs with a Logitech Brio 4k on a mac mini M1 2020. This is and has always been connected by a USBC to USBC cable. My firmware is up to date. I've also bought a replacement camera - just in case. As other people has said, this appears to be an issue deep-down in the mac/camera firmware.

I just installed and used the Logitech Brio HD (not the 4K) on my Mac Studio M1Max and I got the same issues. One time, it was the audio loop, the other time it was simply not pushing sound. I was on Zoom. In between the two trials, I disconnected the Brio.

Here is what I did so far to try to solve the issue (but did not have the time to try yet):

1- Use the Logitech Tune app and updated the firmware of the Brio

2- Use a USB-c to USB-c cable (actually a Thunderbolt cable from OWC)

3- Plugged the Brio into the OWC Ministack STX box I have, which is itself plugged into my Mac Studio TB-4 slots.

(link to the Ministack STX. https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/owc-ministack-stx?utm_term=&utm_campaign=PMax:+Thunderbolt+(smart+shopping)+CA&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&hsa_acc=9360794409&hsa_cam=17508448065&hsa_grp=&hsa_ad=&hsa_src=x&hsa_tgt=&hsa_kw=&hsa_mt=&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIucva8ML0-QIVBjaGCh1sGgGDEAAYASAAEgJSIPD_BwE)

I'll see if the Brio HD works good or not.

Have been experiencing this same issue. Glad to see that there seems to be some work arounds! Thanks everyone for sharing.

Possible short term in-the-moment solution: In reading this post I ended up unplugging then plugging back in the Brio webcam and this seemed to resolve the issue (at least for now). If this problem comes back for anyone in the middle of a meeting I would suggest doing this to hopefully resolve it for that meeting.

In past meetings I basically had to revert to muting my mic and only using the chat to communicate, and in some of those meetings I was leading/presenting something. So frustrating!

Also for anyone else troubleshooting this, for the longest time I couldn't figure out what was going on or how to test it because I couldn't hear the audio loop but everyone else on the call could. I realized that if you go to the Zoom audio settings and test out the mic you can hear the audio loop. You can also go to your Mac sound input settings and see that it is picking up audio (the loop) even though there are no sounds in your environment. Once I unplugged and plugged the Brio back in, I could see that the loop was gone through both of those methods.

Logitech says it comes from Apple. Apple says it comes from Logitech !

The only solution I found (and it works !):

As the Mac Mini M1 does not have a microphone, I bought a basic microphone (the cheapest I found).

On the audio preference panel, I selected the new microphone so I do not use the camera built-in microphone. Same settings in Zoom or Meet.

No audio loops since I've done that.

Hope it helps.
