iPad 5 battery? Is it a brick?

So I traveled for work and when the iPad began acting glitchy and not powering on I tucked it away. That was years ago. When I plugged it in tonight the screen shows the charge indicator then a few mins later a lighting cable extending up from the home button, above that an up arrow and above that the iTunes logo. It shows that then goes black repeatedly. I tried connecting it to my MacBook but was instructed to remove it due to it using too much power. Connected my Mac charger and got the same thing. I realize the battery is likely toast but is there a way to power up? Or, what would you do in my situation... is it a brick? Thanks!!
