There are a number of long online videos (generally tutorials) which have "chapter" markers or links posted below them which enable you to jump quickly to specific parts of the video.
I am not at my mac to check this now but I remember that that it worked - but I was exporting a mov file at the time, not mp4.
Two things you might try:
a) see if chapters markers are available using another application, like VLC
b) export selecting Video and Audio instead of Computer and see if the resulting mov file has chapters accessible in Quicktime Player.
You can add the same chapter marker as you would do with DVD 😊
You also can use Compressor to add chapters to existing videos.

I have added the markers to my .mp4 video but how do I jump to them?
Thanks Ian. The markers aren't showing up. The next and previous chapter in the View menu are grayed out. Not sure what this is about.

I am using macOS 11.5.2 (Big Sur) and QT Player 10.5
10.5 is still the current player in Monterey.
What did you do to see the chapter markers in VLC?
Is it possible that the others were collapsed as shown in Tom's screenshot?
Yep! They are now working but weren't earlier in the day for Tom and me. Even those same commands in the QT menu were greyed out.
Thanks for that clarification Al. I noticed the arrows and different symbols on the screenshot Tom posted and was tempted to question it.
PS You need to get a better lens on your camera.😄
