Midi stopped working with iOS 15.4

Is anyone else having any issues with midi programs not working via camera connection kits to their music workstations via usb connected to the keyboard? My Yamaha M08 worked perfectly until iOS 15.4. All of my midi apps freeze, then crash with this update.

I reported first issue when get it on 15.4, in march 27, and I’ve sent a lot of logs and a lot of new information to them. I really don’t know why is so difficult to fix that.

Thanks, unfortunately my Piano doesn't have 5-Pin DIN midi connectors, only USB Type B. I was looking at similar devices that convert USB Midi to Bluetooth but reluctant to spend more money to fix a problem that Apple shouldn't have created in the first place. I've reported the issue here: Feedback - iPad - Apple. Let's hope Apple fix this in the next update!

I have to call them and they will do a live diagnostic while I run the apps. I'll update here after the call.

Here is my reply to Apple:

- Names of other MIDI apps that you said are affected

       - Simply Piano

       - MIDIWrench

       - Synth One

       - Midi Sheet Music

       - MIDITrail

- Exactly what external hardware are you using including the brand and model info from the cable, external MIDI controller, etc.

        - Yamaha YPG-235

        - Yamaha NP-V60

- What software or firmware versions are you on (if devices that have onboard control and use SW/FW).

              - The keyboard I have uses internal driver and is plug and play and so are most of the keyboards mentioned in this forum: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253771323?answerId=257431253022 There are a lot of other people that are having the same issue.

I will call the support number and do the live diagnostics

In the meanwhile, I found out that it is somehow related with the connected USB devices. I use a rather old Yamaha P-250 Stage Piano via USB. With this, none of the apps that try to scan for Midi devices, work anymore. If I use the iRig Midi interface and connect the Piano via DIN midi cable, everything works fine. With a new Midi Keyboard (Nektar GX 61), I still can use the direct USB connection. The problem might be related with older Midi standards.

Hi. Are you using a Din to USB cable? Is it that. I have a piano and it has the two interfaces. The USB-B and Din. I don’t have the Din cables, and I was using the USB-B to USB-A connected in an USB-C Apple adapter. If I connected a Din USB cable instead of an USB-B USB-A cable, do you think it will work?

I will need to buy it. :-(

Thank you.

Do you work with iPad or iPhone?

Which models do you work with?

You know

I solve my problem, i just change the keyboard, my 17 y. old Yamaha for a new Casio oxygen 61 m-audio.

It works for me also with a Yamaha P-125 B

And also update my iPad Pro 2017, iPhone 11 to iOS 15.4.1

And everything, all apps I have are working just fine

God look!

(I think that in the new iOS update is not included the old MIDI system)

I have important news to report. I was able to get the iPad to see the MoXf again. After the update suddenly I believe my midi adapter the Yamaha UX96 went unresponsive. I replaced it with an IRIG2 and suddenly the iPad sees the Moxf again. I hope this helps everyone. I can't tell you how much pain I went through the last 24 hours trying to get it to work. I found out that other Yamaha Moxf owners still had a working midi connection after the update which made me take a second look and start replacing parts just in case.

I was using a camera connection kit with via the lightning adapter into the usb connection on the back of my Yamaha Mo8... I never used the midi ports on the back of the keyboard, since I could connect via the usb, to the camera connection kit, into the lightning port on my Ipad. That was up until they released iOS version 15.4.. My midi connection was completely lost after that. I too, ended up purchasing an iRig Midi 2 kit and got it to work, using the midi cables. My original setup with the camera connection kit was working flawlessly up until iOS 15.4 .... I don't understand why Apple decided to just shut off Midi 1 capable devices that were working just fine using camera connection kits. At the very least, they should have told the Apple faithful via news release or tech release. Or if they did, I never saw it.
