Midi stopped working with iOS 15.4

Hi, as I wrote in the other chat, use the 5 pin DIN MIDI connection instead of USB at your CP33. For sure you need a MIDI interface from DIN to USB/Lightning. But this is a functional work around.

Same here for me. iOS 15.6 solved my usb connectivity with midi instruments. Too bad it took that long but I appreciate being able to use my rig again.

I have a Digital Piano here (Yamara CLP 700 Series).

I was using with an app on Air 4 with USB-B to USB-A interface, and it was working very well until the updating. Versions 15.4, 15.4.1 and 15.5 of iPadOS doesn’t work.

I have an old iPad Air 2 with 15.3 and is still working. Same cable.

Still not working on 15.5.

Btw, I contacted Yamaha and they said they were aware of the issue and had reported it to Apple: https://uk.yamaha.com/en/news_events/04_dtxm12_notice.html

Can confirm that my iPhone 13 mini on iOS 15.6 and my iPad mini 6th gen on iPadOS 15.6 are now working with my Yamaha CP33 again as before 15.4.

It's actually been since March that it's not been working. Kind of crazy!

But finally it's working again using usb.

Check your usb cable. I had to buy new cables because they became defective. Also make sure your connection ports are clean. Lastly check other software like garage band to see if the midi is being recognized. I have a P115 and everything works fine.

I tried today a 5 pin (MIDI/DIN) to USB-A cable and it worked very well. The USB-B to USB-A cable still doesn’t working.

I got one from the DOREMiDi Brand.

How many people have Yamaha? I have Just try with Arturia keylab 88 plus NI M32 plus steimberg ur242 and works. The issue for me Seems linked to Yamaha USB S90ES. I have tried with PC and s90 works fine...

My iPad Pro 13 4th gen stopped recognizing my Yamaha Clavinova with the last iOS update. This is not a cheap midi device and everything was working perfectly until the last update. The midi apps work fine. After investigating what I have discovered is that the midi device is not being recognized. If I unplug the midi device the app works fine. When I started up midi wrench it looked like it was going to hang so I unplugged the midi and plugged it back in and the app started up. I could see the name “Yamaha Clavinova”, but it was not highlighted and I couldn’t do anything with it.

I am having this problem with my classroom keyboards (not high end, I know). I am using Yamaha PSR 293 and connect them to iPads using USB-B to lightning. I have been using this with a piano app (Scoove) so my students can work independently and each at their own pace. The iPads that automatically updated to 15.4.1 no longer can be used because the iPad no longer connects via midi. But, the iPads that had not updated still work. I have one newer PSR-E373 that does work with the update. this supports someone else's post that it might be the older midi causing the compatibility problem. Unfortunately, there is no way my school district is going to buy me 10 new keyboards; this is really impacting my curriculum. If anyone discovers some kind of adapter that helps connect the new update to the older midi device, please post!

For my Yamaha DGX-630 piano I ended up purchasing the Yamaha UD-BT01 Wireless Bluetooth MIDI Adaptor. Bluetooth may not be a solution for everyone but it worked for my situation so may be helpful for a few people.

So I got an update from apple. I told them that it’s happening to all the midi apps I tried, over 10, and her dev team told her it is most likely an OS issue. She said she will update me in a few days to confirm and let me know when what iOS version they will release the fix. I’ll keep y’all posted, my iPad is pretty much useless unless I can use it for music

You have to buy the IRIG midi2. Costs $69 dollars at guitar center.... It will work then. I don't know of any other solutions....

Fast Test using 15.6 (19G5027e) and works.
