Midi stopped working with iOS 15.4

Hi, I think the problem is with the latest version of iOS. Here‘s why: I have a 2011 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.12 and an old version of GarageBand. This works just fine with my Yamaha P155 (vintage 2011). My iPad and iPhone are on ios 15.5. GarageBand worked very briefly with the Yamaha on both the phone and the tablet and then didn‘t. I reset both the iPad and the phone. Again, after about 5 minutes, GarageBand didn‘t recognise the input. I also have an old Android

phone. Just for the heck of it, I downloaded a freebie app (Piano MIDI) from google play and tried that too. It worked!

So please apple, fix your iOS midi bug!

I asked for support to apple and they recommended a full reset of my iPad in order to test but the problem exists in iPadOS out of the box, so I asked to SimplyPiano for support, they said that they know about the issue but, "Apple have to fix something in their end"

Finally, after doing all apple asked to do in order to escalate the problem, in a support call, they recognized that the problem is in their end and there are no solution time, the only alternative we have is to wait...

Well a friend of mine introduced me to Mio products as a work around to this Apple software issue. I bought a used 5 pin din for $20. Gonna test tomorrow if this works I’m gonna invest in the usb interfaces that cost over $200, but I think this is a good investment for any future mishaps with Software issues.

Quick solution. Buy a midi (din) to usb-a cable. :-)

I do not use these simple „cables“. For sure they contain more or less the same interface chipsets like the iRig MIDI interface. I can only say, that this is a functional work around for my setup. As the „cables“ are pretty cheap, I would recommend you to try it. Might be quicker as a bugfix by Apple.

A lot of app allow users to manage different midi keyboard with iPad for example Camelot Pro, cubasis, Sampletank etc. Irig midi Is a workaround but not the solution. Also if u have a soundcard with standard midi the result Is the same of using irig.

I have the same issue with Yamaha Clavinova CLP 230. Worked fine on my iPad PRO in Garageband until it got updated to iOS 15.4.

It still works fine on my other iPad PRO which is still with iOS 14.0.1.

i updated my iPad Pro to ipadOS 15.5, plugged in my Yamaha MO8 keyboard and opened AUM app…it worked! usb MIDI worked again... but only for a few minutes. Suddenly a message appeared on the screen to set up face ID. I canceled the setup and when I went back to AUM my Yamaha was gone again :(

I’m specifically having usb midi problems with iOS 15.4.1, Yamaha S90, Ensoniq TS 10, and Akai MPK 249. There’s a 20 plus year difference on some of these boards but it wasn’t a problem before the update. I use IPad Pro and Strindberg UR 44 C

As an information. I've updated my Yamaha Calvinova to latest build and it didn’t work.

The app crash when it’s opened while connected thru usb-b usb-a and adapter. It’s a bug on iOS/iPadOS. No doubt about that. :-(

That’s funny. So I reset my iPad today as apple suggested and right after the reset it worked with simply piano. After coming back a few hours later it stopped working. Simply also told me the same, it’s on the OS side. I asked apple to refund me the full subscription amount I’d they can’t fix the issue since I only bought the iPad for leaning music. Let’s all keep at it

You're right, that works great for keyboards that have the 5-pin MIDI connection. So many of the customers I am dealing with don't have that, they only have the USB Host connection. From my understanding Bluetooth works, as well, if you have the option to use an adapter.
