Midi stopped working with iOS 15.4

Is anyone else having any issues with midi programs not working via camera connection kits to their music workstations via usb connected to the keyboard? My Yamaha M08 worked perfectly until iOS 15.4. All of my midi apps freeze, then crash with this update.

iPad, iPadOS 15

I reported first issue when get it on 15.4, in march 27, and I’ve sent a lot of logs and a lot of new information to them. I really don’t know why is so difficult to fix that.

I think they stopped supporting certain midi devices and if that is the case I will throw my iPad in the garbage and go get a Samsung. They suggested I update my Clavininova which I could do a firmware update, but that update was a long time ago and I suspect it wouldn’t resolve the problem anyway. Apparently Yamaha is talking to Apple about a solution.

This happened to me too, but I think I managed to find a (temporary?) solution (sorry if this posted already). TLDR: it seems to be working again once I switched to Apple's original Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter (link to Amazon).

My setup is a Casio keyboard, the latest iPad (2021) and SimplyPiano. I was using this (link to Amazon) USB + charger splitter/adapter, and it worked great with both charing and the USB cable for midi from my keyboard. Yet, post iPadOs upgrade the USB part stopped working, still charging well. I then tried a few different USB to Lightning adapters, but none worked. As a last resort I tried purchasing the original Apple one. And voila, that one is working. For now.

Hi, I think the problem is with the latest version of iOS. Here‘s why: I have a 2011 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.12 and an old version of GarageBand. This works just fine with my Yamaha P155 (vintage 2011). My iPad and iPhone are on ios 15.5. GarageBand worked very briefly with the Yamaha on both the phone and the tablet and then didn‘t. I reset both the iPad and the phone. Again, after about 5 minutes, GarageBand didn‘t recognise the input. I also have an old Android

phone. Just for the heck of it, I downloaded a freebie app (Piano MIDI) from google play and tried that too. It worked!

So please apple, fix your iOS midi bug!

I have videos, that I made showing the errors, that I uploaded to dropbox. If the agent you're working with would like access, they can contact me and I'll share them. I have also been working with a developer, who is the head of GeoShred and he has been talking with Apple as well. Hopefully, if enough people keep driving this issue, they will come out with a fix sooner rather than later.

That’s funny. So I reset my iPad today as apple suggested and right after the reset it worked with simply piano. After coming back a few hours later it stopped working. Simply also told me the same, it’s on the OS side. I asked apple to refund me the full subscription amount I’d they can’t fix the issue since I only bought the iPad for leaning music. Let’s all keep at it

So I got an update from apple. I told them that it’s happening to all the midi apps I tried, over 10, and her dev team told her it is most likely an OS issue. She said she will update me in a few days to confirm and let me know when what iOS version they will release the fix. I’ll keep y’all posted, my iPad is pretty much useless unless I can use it for music

What really gets me is that they are acting like they didn't know about this issue 2 months ago. It had been reported to them then, but your comments indicate that they are acting like they didn't and that they just now escalated it to that level....I have to tell our app's customers that they just can't use it with older Yamaha keyboards right now until Apple fixes it, which is not great for any business model.
