iCloud Drive appears stuck in sync

I've had issues with iCloud drive syncing properly for months now; tried everything from signing out & back in to disabling & re-enabling to compressing files into zips - all with no solution. Currently, my issue lies with the little clouds that appear next to folders that are not updated.

My desktop has only two folders. One of them has the cloud with the downward arrow while the other has the dotted cloud. However, when I click into the folder that seems to be the problem, the clouds disappear as if everything is up to date. I've attached two screenshots below. Any ideas as to what the problem may be, and how I can prevent this from happening again? Thanks in advance!

Hello evcm7,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

If we understand your post correctly, you're seeing a cloud next to some files. Some have a down arrow with them and others have the dotted iCloud. We'd like to help!

Hi @evcm7

I have a similar issue. My files are all in the cloud and in my note (Macbook air 2020 M1 Monterey 12.2.1). Sometimes, the folder that is in the iCloud drive appears with the dotted cloud, but all the files in the folder are in the cloud. I can see that on my iPhone and iPad.

When this happens, I rename the folder as “[name]_old” or other name you want, create a new folder with the name of the original folder, drag and drop all files from the old folder to the new one and delete the old folder. After that, the new folder do not show the dotted cloud anymore. But it is temporary. After one or two days, it happens again in different folders randomly. I do not know how to fix it. It seams a bug in OS.
