health active energy from phone data

I went on a short back-backing trip without my watch, but with my phone. The Health app shows my phone recorded thousands of steps and dozens of flights climbed for two days, but shows the active energy for those two days as zero. Why isn’t health using the iPhone recorded steps/flights to calculate the active energy for those two days?

Hi mitchswpt,

We see you have a question about the "Active Energy" category in the Health app. To verify, your iPhone recorded steps and flights climbed, but the "Active Energy" section does not account for that data, correct?

Based on the information in the "About Active Energy" section of the Health app, this sounds like it may be normal. The "Data Sources & Access" section lists fitness trackers as potential Data Sources for Active Energy, but it does not look like it will include data recorded on the iPhone.
