I and others I know with the same hardware and despite "Displays" > "Automatically adjust brightness" being disabled, the screen dims constantly. It's frustrating because I'm in a bright area and it's hard to see the screen without straining. I saw instructions for fixing this in another post Unwanted automatic screen dimming (MacBoo… - Apple Community but the instructions only seem to apply to Intel
MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.2
An OS update fixed my problem, but as a temporary workaround, I put a small piece of opaque plastic tape over the light sensor. It had to be larger than the sensor to block indirect light too.
decidedly low tech, but it worked.
