iPhone volume decreasing on its own

When I am listening to music, playing a game with sound, watching a video, or having sound be used by any app (SiriusXM, tik tok, etc) the sound has randomly been decreasing like it does when I would get a text message notification or something, but there is no notification that comes through, and then the music/sound comes back to where is was. Any ideas on how to solve this issue?

Having the same problem. When I play an app in the background (usually youtube) and check another app the volume will randomly lower and stay low for 30 - 60 seconds. There's no way to turn the volume back up. So, for instance, if the volume is at 100% then it will still show as being 100% despite an approximately 40% decrease in volume.

After almost 2 weeks of testing, I sadly confirm the bug is still present in iOS 16 (even in the most recent update 16.0.2). I think Apple does not care about this issue or simply does not know the root cause of it in order to fix it. Either one, it's not a good thing. I am dealing with this annoyance since March. I am done with this. Switching to Android. Good luck guys!!!

Not sure if this is the same problem others are having but my volume was always getting muted or lowering. I eventually learned it was my Apple Watch muting it whenever the screen was getting covered randomly against my body or something. I disabled the mute when covered option on the Apple Watch to avoid this.

If Dexcom was the culprit in this case, are you solely relying on the receiver then to get your blood sugar reading? Or after reinstalling Dexcom, you found the problem was no longer there? I'm unable to completely remove Dexcom because it is part of a system called Loop that integrates with my insulin pump. Have you reached out to Dexcom at all to report the issue to them if a complete removal of the app was the fix? Curious if they had any feedback.

I did not have the problem until upgrading to an iPhone 14 (from iphone xs) and is mostly experienced on my commute back and forth to work via Carplay, but have also noticed the issue at home using the native speaker on the phone as well.

i faced same issue with Mi fitness app, i tried all possible options and settings none worked but this is what worked for me:

i got call from my friend while i was connected to bluetooth and audio was playing before call, while call was disconnected the volume gained back to 100% .

solution : call a random number and end call immediately. Music should be at 100% now.

let me know if that work.

close to dumping iphones as well. this started for me in March 2023 with iPhone 12 pro. took to apple, wouldn't repicate. reset settings: nope, reset network settings: nope, reset to factory default: nope, reset to factory default and didn't install saved phone info from cloud, STARTED BRAND NEW: NOPE, apple issued me a 'new' iphone 12 pro: nope, bought iphone 14 pro max in september: NOPE. sitting in starbucks right now, listening to music on earbuds...every few minutes, sound drops for 10 seconds: STICK A CHOPSTICK, SLOWLY, THROUGH MY EYE TO EASE MY MUSIC PAIN SINCE MARCH 2023. better than this 'sound glitch', apple hasn't solved/fixed it yet. GFY AAPL, im about to try other phones and keep this turd as an extra remote at home. Thanks AAPL

Okay, hear me out please, because this is something that kept happening to me. On at least one song (Spiritbox's "The Summit" between 50-55 sec in). At the same spot. Every bleeping time.

Could it be the equalizer settings you're using? I had mine on "Late Night," which was causing the problem. Bluetooth, wired headphones, anything. It was only on my iPhone 13, as well. No problems on iMac nor iPad. Trying to eliminate possibilities, it finally hit me that the only thing different between it and the other things was the EQ had been set. Just turned the EQ setting off and that fixed the problem. At least for me.

Settings -> (Apple) Music -> EQ ->None/off

I'm assuming Apple Music because the icon is the same as Apple Music. I was also not having problems with drops on YouTube Music.

You're safe to update to 15.7.5 at least.

I found a potential solution that seems to still be working for me. I went into sounds and haptics in the settings app, then toggled the play haptics for both ring and silent mode to off and also the System Haptics setting. I also went into Headphone Safety and turned on the reduce loud sounds. I then turned my phone off and then back on again. I enabled the settings again after turning back on and everything seems to work okay. It appears some settings bug was causing the issue for me at least.

@briley148 I don't think that Snapchat has anything to do with this topic

As an update, the issue has returned for me. I am currently contemplating doing a full backup and restore as new with my computer to see if I can get the issue to go away for a longer term solution. It's a bit frustrating that this keeps happening.

Part of me wonders if this is a device specific issue or just an iOS problem

What problem, specifically? There are 7 pages in this thread, and many different problems have been discussed. If you specifically mean the volume decreases when you are listening to music or other content and you receive a text or other notification, that is normal. And to prevent it from happening turn the Mute switch on the left side of the phone to the Mute position, towards the back of the phone, so it shows as orange when you look at the switch from the side.
