airpods connected but no sound

i have an iphone 12, and i recently got airpods about a month ago and they connect but no audio travels out the airpods, rather the audio comes out the speakers of the phone

any way to resolve the issue???

Sound doesn’t come through the AirPods Hi everyone, I recently got the AirPod pros for Christmas. They have connected to my phone only a handful of times. Now my iPhone says there are connected and everything but sounds doesn’t come through the AirPods and the headphone image does not pop up. Did you try to select the AirPods as output, as described in this discussion?
