Can I save my Apple Music Library before cancelling my subscription temporarily?

Hello.

Due to reasons I have no direct control of, soon I will not be able to pay for my App Store subscriptions, including the Music subscription that I’ve been using for years.

I don’t have any iTunes purchases, I only have Apple Music content, playlists and a couple of tracks I downloaded from the internet, that I didn’t find on any music streaming services.

Can I export my entire music library so that I won’t lose anything while I can’t pay for it? I don’t need to listen to it, I just need to preserve it so that I can restore it when I will be able to subscribe again. Is this even possible? If so, how can I do it?

I have a Monterey MacBook and an external drive where I’d like to keep the music library.

It seems like I won’t be able to renew my Music subscription any time soon. But I’m planning to renew it as soon as I can.

You can export the library as an XML file, but this really only useful if you need to support third party software or want to edit paths as part of a migration. You still need all the media files to make use of it. Apple Music download cease to be useful when your subscription ends and cannot be imported into a library at a later date.

I believe if you resubscribe within 30 days of your subscription lapsing you may get your selection back. I'm not aware of any other way of automatically rebuilding your selection, but you could copy and paste the song list into a spreadsheet so you can review the list of songs, artists, and albums you have now when you want to rebuild your library.

Thanks for replying. I’m afraid it’s going to take more than 3 months until I can subscribe again. I heard there was a way to export your music library through iTunes or the Music app for Mac. But I’m not sure if it affects the entire Apple Music library, or is it just iTunes purchases and internet downloads, so I decided to ask here.
