Monterey 12.0.1-12.4 & Magic Mouse Issues?

There have been many reports of Magic Mouse/trackpad freezes, resistance or sluggishness over the last few months in this forum. Many have noticed that this coincided with the update from Big Sur to Monterey 12.0.1. There have also been varied reports of macOS 12.3 also fixing the issue for some.

No such luck for me however as all sequential updates from 12.0.1 to 12.4 have not changed anything.

I have an iMac 24", the problem is intermittent and infrequent, lasting only a few seconds if I respond by shaking or picking up and moving the mouse along rather forcefully. Apple support have replaced the mouse under warranty without resolution. I have done all the usual things like deleting preference files and resetting the bluetooth module with no effect. There is no issue with the apple bluetooth keyboard.

Is anyone still experiencing a similar issue under Monterey 12.4, or have had Apple acknowledge that this is an issue associated with software or hardware?

Reconnecting the mouse with a computer restart in between as per your (vilaincanard) instructions seems to have addressed and corrected the issue for me. I have been testing for a few days now and the mouse is smooth and stutter free.

If anyone is keen on trying this, then be warned that when you turn off the mouse, you cannot use it to access and make selections in System Preferences/Bluetooth or restart the computer. I used my keyboard to move my pointer as per the apple support article Control the pointer using Mouse Keys on Mac – Apple Support (AU)

You could also connect a USB wired or wireless mouse.

In addition I also took steve626's advice and updated my mouse mat. It seems that PU leather or a vinyl surface seem to be preferred over fabric these days, and this certainly has made the mouse more responsive as it glides easily in response to my movements.

This had been bugging me for quite a few months, so happy to have it resolved at last.
