Wireless Carplay disconnects at the same place on my commute with new iPhone 13

Hello

I got a new iPhone 13 a few days ago, and I have noticed that wireless CarPlay disconnects at the same point on my daily commute each day. I drive this way everyday and this never happened when I had my old phone which was an iPhone 11.

[[SOLVED]]

For wireless apple car play disconnection, Go to:

General -> Cellular -> [your_phone_number] -> Voice and Data -> Select 4G or LTE

My issue is when I have 5G Auto or 5G On it was disconnecting all the time.

Apple, fix this issue. The issue is when 5G is on. And probably some interference with Bluetooth.

Hope this helps.

I have iPhone 11 and have started having the same issues in just one area I travel in. I travel multiple states and cities and it happens in just this one area. I do notice that there is a lot of electrical wires crossing the interstate in the city I travel through. It disconnects and reconnects but my screen in my car goes black and then phone projection will not work. It only started happening about a month ago and it only happens in the one area. I start anticipating it each day during my trip. I would like to find out what the issue is also.

No. I haven't gotten any answers on why this is happening with the iPhone 13, and why it never happened while driving the exact same route using wireless CarPlay with my iPhone 11. The only thing that has changed is that I have a new phone and the only solution to the problem that has been suggested is to not drive in an areas where this happens. The impacted area stretches over several blocks on Main St in my hometown, and I cannot avoid the area without taking a much longer route. So instead I just deal with everyday.

Hey, I have also this problem.

I´ve noticed it happens with my iPhone 13 Pro at the same specific points in my city (Aguascalientes, MX). I haven´t noticed there are any electrical grids in any of them or something that would interfere with the connection, so I guess it must be a software issue, my brother-in-law also has it.

To add to this: for me, this issue is not limited to CarPlay. It affects my other Bluetooth devices as well. When I go for a run, the music stops at the same intersection/place that my CarPlay stops working on my commute. So it’s a Bluetooth issue probably related to location services. I may try changing some location settings and permissions to see if it affects anything

As a Dallas guy, loosing GPS in Ft. Worth is a horrible situation to be in, lol. I have another spot in Dallas on 75 it happens at, someone else had posted about that one in this thread.

It does help to know that it’s not just me, or my devices. I’ll see what happens when I limit my phone to LTE when on CarPlay and see if that helps.

That said, I’m really getting fed up with AT&T around here. I got where I couldn’t send MMS pictures at home. I jumped off my Wi-Fi, and I had 4 bars of 5G, but couldn’t do anything data related, phone calls was it. I called AT&T, the girl was really helpful, she pulled up the tower info and it had a note that it was limited to voice calling only, they are waiting on parts, and they won’t be in till December. So I can’t send pictures via MMS at home, and I do a lot of home automation stuff, and when I get home there are things that happen when I’m inside the geofence. That’s great and all, but my phone has no data connection, so it can’t send out that I’m in the geofence. I had to turn it all off, because when I would leave, my phone would send out “inside fence” but the signal wouldn’t go thru, then I would leave the geofence, and it’s trying to send “outside fence” when I finally get a data connection again, I guess it is still trying to send both, and “outside fence” gets sent first, then “inside fence”. So I’d leave, and 3 mins later my garage door would open up.

I have had the same issue with my apple car play. In the same location, without fail, apple car play disconnects from my car and will not connect again until I get a few blocks away from the location. I’m sure it is some sort of interference but not sure from what.

However, I noticed this not when I got a new phone but when Verizon started switching to 5g. Not sure if that is the reason.

I have endlessly tried all of the above. Nothing works. This is 100% an apple problem that is somehow software related. I am certain of this as it was not happening with my iPhone 12 Pro and then all of the sudden started doing it after one of the software updates…again, I have upgraded to 14 Pro, had it replaced and replaced the entire expensive car audio system which hosts Apple CarPlay and nothing solves it. Apple needs to address this and it’s clear they haven’t responded to this thread with any useful support!!

Wireless CarPlay is a fraud. I have three cars with wireless CarPlay. And one of them I even replaced the head unit with a newer unit. CarPlay cuts in an out due to some sort of radio interference on my commute every single day on SR 92 in Lehi Utah. This also happens at the same place in Park city no matter what car I'm driving.

I am happy to test any beta version of any software that Apple wants me to test. The cars are 2021 Silverado, the 2022 bronco, and a jeep wrangler with a brand new pioneer head unit.

There's a 2-mile stretch on SR 92 where I live. The problem started I think in connection with the Texas Instruments takeover of the Micron facility along that highway.

2023 Ford Bronco - gets interrupted so badly that the entire radio reboots twice along that stretch

2021 Silverado 3500 - cuts out 2-3 times for a total of 20 seconds along that stretch

2015 Jeep with 2017 aftermarket JVC radio - crashes multiple times like the Bronco

Same Jeep with a new Pioneer radio - behaves more like the Chevrolet.

I'm sure it has to do with how the makers buffer and manage connections, it seems like if Apple could use the standard Bluetooth frequency/protocol for wireless CarPlay there would be no problems since Bluetooth never has an issue

Apple DOES use the standard Bluetooth frequency and protocol for wireless CarPlay to establish a Wi-Fi connection. Wi-Fi is required because Bluetooth does not have the required bandwidth for video communications and could not display navigation apps.

Same issue happens to me in Portland, OR on North Interstate Ave and North Tillamook St. There’s a cell tower near the intersection that I’ve always thought could be a factor. It happens in my 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe, and also happens when my wife uses her iPhone. Mode are Pro models but one an 11 and one a 14. The apple car play disconnects, the screen goes black and phone projection / apple car play cannot reconnect.
