Wireless Carplay disconnects at the same place on my commute with new iPhone 13

It appears to happen when I leave my house and get to the edge of my neighborhood. Seems to me like it happens when the phone disconnects from my wifi and connects to cell service. It lasts maybe 10-20 seconds then sounds normal again. Perhaps a buffering issue?!

My wifi disconnects as soon as I’m out of my driveway.

Happens to me as well. There are two physical locations on my commute to work where this happens. Phone calls get transferred back to phone and I have to wait for 10 seconds for the phone to reconnect to the car. Super frustrating. I couldn't tell if it's my car or the phone, but it seems like so many different people are having this issue, that it cannot be the car. Might be a firmware version. Anyway, Apple, would appreciate if you could look into this. I am sure you already have tons of metadata on this. Positive many people here would volunteer granting you access to their metadata if necessary so you could isolate the bug and take care of it. Thanks!

I’m having this problem too. I always lose Carplay when i pull into my sons school. I can still use the bluetooth, and my service is fine. But it’s always disconnects from CarPlay when I park at the school. As soon as i drive away, it connects again. Have you found a solution? I have an iphone 12.

I have had the same issue on my commute. It is limited to a half mile area but extremely annoying when on a call or listening to a podcast. Same issue effected the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro. CarPlay should not disconnect based on cell service or geograpghy. Please help Apple!

@scjnsn - I have the same issue on SR92 both ways on the commuter lane or main road. It fades in an out close to Center Street. I have an aftermarket JVC headunit in a Mini Cooper. I have not tested in our 2 other cars (Jeep Wrangler and Nissan Altima) as I don't drive them much. Very annoying.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 14 on my electric BMW at that exact same location. I wonder if there is a business nearby that could be interfering. However, there doesn’t appear to be any significant infrastructure, like an airport.

I honestly gave up on CarPlay and now just using my wired connection with BMW software. It's a shame, but I no longer get annoyed when my calls are basically dropped or my music randomly stops. I couldn't figure out how to connect CarPay with the wire, it only gives me the option to do it wirelessly.

The wired connection with the BMW software works great. A few small annoyances but nothing as big as this problem. Cheers ya'll

It only happens on our VW & not my Mini. Same phone. Actually it’s been four different phones that disconnect on the VW. Never on the Mini. It would be interesting to gather all of the car make/models for this.

That’s not how software works. It is an Apple problem. When your users have an issue, you don’t say “oh we didn’t cause this”, you find a way around it. This also didn’t used to be a problem, so something has changed that’s caused this to begin happening.

Not true. It could be a specific problem with a specific version of CarPlay or models of cars. Apple still is the owner of the application and it is their responsibility to work with the automotive or cellular vendors to address the issue. Specifically if it is repeatable and happening to many users.

I don't think you understand what I am saying. I am not claiming that there is no technical challenge. I am sure, everything works, exactly as implemented. The idea is that vendors are responsible for solving these problems. That's how great software works.

And you don’t understand what I am saying. There are things that are not controllable by a vendor, and interference in the unlicensed band that Bluetooth uses is one of the things that a manufacturer can control.

Did you ever find a fix for this. My iPhone does this every time I leave my house and come home at the same intersection. I as well thought maybe it was a location service on one of my apps or something but have had a hard time finding the problem.
