How to resolve Slow Email Opening on macOS Monterey 12.4

Seems like ever since my Mac OS Monterey was updated to 12.4, I've had a lot of problems opening my email. I can click on the email envelope to open my email and wait a minute or so for my emails to be downloaded. Then when I click on the email to open, it only opens to show who it's from and the subject, but it may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes to fully open the message of the email. Even if it's only 2 or 3 lines. Normally, I could click on the email and it would open completely, whether it was an ad or a letter from someone. Has anyone else had this slow email opening problem?

Here is what worked for me today 6/26/22 (OS Monterey 12.4 on iMac). I went into Mail>Preferences>Privacy and unchecked "Protect Mail Activity." I made sure "Hide IP Address" was checked. Suddenly all my emails will open. It was taking 1-2 minutes or more every day since the last OS update. What a relief. I hope this is useful for you.

Ok, so, a few minutes ago (Eastern Time) I created a new Admin Account, added in my email Domain, and a Gmail, account. Mail.app launched right away! It's now syncing up 87,950 messages and probably climbing as it usually does. So, what could be buggering up the other Admin account? And or would deleting the Mail accounts and adding them back fix the slow launch (about 25 to 30 seconds), which I could live with, BUT, in my experience it's usually a harbinger of worse things to come!

Hello all,

I've been following this thread all the way to 2024 'fix' suggestions. I'm astounded with all the efforts made by so many attempting to resolve a basic function of email function-with no solution in sight.

Earlier I got dissed in this forum for griping about 'planned obsolescence' baked into the mac book by apple.

The only fix: cough up a couple K for a new mac book which will work until it won't take OS updates anymore, despite being fully functional (with the exception of email, naturally).

Outrageous!

Hi BaffledUntilNow,

I feel your pain! I've had the same email thorn for months. Finally booked an appt with a 'genius' to discuss. He told me that my MacBook Air 2013, if it's topping off updates at Monterey, then the operating system I have cannot process the newer OS processing power for applications of Ventura let alone today's Sonoma-in fact even in Monterey my old machine is being overworked. So theoretically mac mail is too far ahead of Monterey to function as it should.

And just fyi, apple says it will be discontinuing support for Monterey by the end of 2024. So Apple's new M3 today or M4 chip soon, will, like all of us over 60, consider Monterey irrelevant.
