My keyboard died. After recharging it no longer will allow me to use foreign accent marks on letters.
Apple Support site says to make sure keyboard slider is NOT set to off, and then everything will work fine fine. IT DOES NOT. Whether on a website, in Gmail, Word or Pages, this function DOES NOT WORK. HELP!!

Terminal app is provided by Apple and is in your Applications folder in the Utilities subfolder.
Try copy/pasting this if typing is not working:
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true

Are you talking about the popup menu that appears when you do press and hold on a key? If so, try this:
open Terminal app and type
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true
and then restart.
Thank you. Begging your pardon, but my iMac does not seem to have a “Terminal app”. A search of basic system components and a general search only revealed that there appears to be something called a “Terminal Emulator” on the Apple App Store for iPads and iPhones. Where might I find the “Terminal” for my iMac??

Update. I “found” Terminal function. I typed EXACTLY what you recommended and was rejected for Illegal commands. If you would be so kind as to specify exactly what should be typed next to “iMac:~ rob$ “ on my Terminal I will try again.
