how to add Utilities folder to sidebar of Finder window

I am running Monterey on a mac mini M1. I cannot add the Utilities folder (/Applications/Utilities) to the finder sidebar. I would like to do this because there are several utilities in that folder that I often use and it would be convenient. But when I try to do so, it will not add the Utilities folder to the sidebar.

For example.

I open a finder window

I open the Applications folder

I click and hold the Utilities folder and drag it to the sidebar

The "circle and line" does not appear and the Utilities folder is not added to the sidebar when I release the mouse.

Another example.

I open the Applications folder

I select but do not open Utilities folder

I click File->add to sidebar

nothing happens and there is no error message, Utilities is not added to the sidebar.

I suspect this is a "feature" of having part of the Utilities folder in the protected segment of the disk that contains the os and part of it in the Data segment ( or whatever those segments are called). But even so, since I can access the Utilities directory using Finder (i.e. click on Applications in the sidebar and then click on Utilities in the folder listing) and access all the apps in the Utilities folder, it should be possible to add Utilities to the sidebar since clicking on it in the sidebar is equivalent to clicking on Applications and then clicking on Utilities.

anyway, any thoughts on how to add the Utilities folder to the sidebar?

Thanks for trying it. Now the question is, what is different between our two systems?

as I said in my first post, the line and circle do not appear when I drag Utilities into the sidebar. (see screen shot)

I am running Monterey 12.4 on a mac Mini M1. All updates are current.

There are apps in my Utilities directory that did not come from macOS (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud). These were added when I migrated my previous system onto the mini.

If, using terminal, I do the following:

cd /Applications/Utilities

ls

A list of non-OS apps is displayed (e.g. the Adobe apps) but none of the OS apps are in the list (e.g. Disk Utility) so they must be someplace else.

I know of nothing special about my system settings that would cause this.

Are there any differences you can see? or things I should check on my system?

many thanks.
