Samsung M5 Smart Monitor 32"

I purchased a Samsung M5 Smart Monitor 32" as an second display for my Macbook Pro 2018 - 4 thunderbolt ports. If I choose to connect via airplay the resolution is nice and fills the screen, but the cursor lags. If I connect the monitor via HDMI cable then I cannot get the resolution set to fill the entire monitor. I have tried both extended and mirroring. Any help?

That 1920 by 1080 display features two HDMI ports, but not any other suitable for display.

Your MacBook Pro 13-in 2018 model is capable of driving multiple displays at 5K resolutions via ThunderBolt/USB-C. But it requires an appropriately capable display adapter.

--------

HDMI cables you want for HDMI-only Monitors (higher resolutions than 720p TV sets) are marked as Certified with an anti-counterfeiting tag and are labeled:

"Premium High Speed HDMI cable" or that + "with Ethernet" --OR--

"Ultra High Speed HDMI cable" or that + "48G"

Cables with No Certification tags are good for your standard 720p TV set, and not much more.

You may also have to make adjustments to the 'On-screen display' settings (in the display itself) to attain highest resolutions.
