Airport security fault

This issue has now happened to me a number of times. When I put my phone near the security barrier with my boarding pass the Apple Pay wallet activates stopping the gate reading my boarding pass. The pass is not in my wallet just a screen shot of the email or the email itself. I can’t work out how to stop the Apple Pay appearing and this is stopping me getting through security gate. I’ve looked online and see the topic in posts back to 2014 but none of the discussions seem to identify a solution?

I’ve already checked with the airline the ticket does not come in a wallet compatible format. I thought I had tried dismissing Apple Pay but was maybe doing it wrong. I’ll try the swipe up next time and see, thanks

Good that you checked.

Yeah, it's not at all obvious how to dismiss Apple Pay without using it. I had to pull out my phone and play around before answering. You can test it out before you're in a hurred situation by double clicking on the Home button to pull up Apple Pay (assuming you have that enabled in Settings>Wallet & Apple Pay).

The pillars where airline staff scan tickets will activate the NFC chip in your phone. That's the way it's supposed to work. If you can't add the boarding passes to Wallet (I'd double-check on that, though), you will just need to dismiss Apple Pay. You do so by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. It will take you right back to where you were.
