HDMI adapter, prime video and iOS16…NOT working.

Anyone else having issues playing videos now after upgrading to iOS16 using the HDMI adapter? Tubi doesn’t work. Amazon doesn’t work. It plays but as if it’s in slow motion. Videos I purchased play just fine.

any help or ideas are greatly appreciated!

yeah, i think this is the case because my adapter works fine on youtube and some safari websites but i face that issue when i try to stream through this site called “criterion” which is very strict about their drm. you can’t even stream their content on their app through the adapter, you have to use the browser version of their site. before i updated to ios 16 all my streaming worked perfectly but as soon as i updated, i started facing this issue only on that particular site. that’s all i have reference for since i don’t use netflix/amazon etc.

I agree. Going to iOS 16 was a big mistake for trying to stream movies via HDMI to your TV. Go on social media and complain. In fact, while you’re at it complain about Apple obstructing Chinese citizens from using certain iPhone functions to talk, text, and share content ahead of the massive protests against Beijing’s harsh Zero-COVID policies.

I just downloaded IOS16.1.2 which is showing to be the latest update. I updated then got the firmware update notice when hooked up to “lightening to hdmi” connector, now I have sound with no picture on the Chosen app. I have picture with no sound on Prime app. And I have sound and picture on YouTube app.

Someone please fix this. Apple WTFU!

Same here. Use apple branded lighting to HDMI to watch tv on my boat and since updating to iOS 16 Hulu, Discovery+, and Paramount+ won’t play properly on any tv. Tried several different adapters on several TVs and same issue. No sound and slow and jumping picture. Worked fine for years until iOS 16 update. Tried rebooting phone, reloading apps, and nothing works. Plays fine on the phone or iPad.

when i contacted them, they blamed the internal wiring on my adapter and told me to bring it into an apple store(the nearest of which is a 3 hr drive from where i live.) they won’t do anything about it nor even recognize that the issue is ios 16, no matter how much you insist on that. i asked them if apple recognized this issue as something inherent to ios 16, but they just dodged the question. it beats me what we have to do so their team can at least take a look at the issue for what it is

at the end of my last contact with Apple they basically slammed the door on helping blaming the individual apps since AppleTV and Netflix work. We all need to contact the individual app developers like Hulu, Amazon, Paramount, Peacock, etc. I have done so and they said they would address the problem. Who knows if and when it might happen, if ever. It could be by design for these apps.

I am at iOS 16.1. Currently Netflix, HBO Plus, Disney+, Peacock, Showtime Anytime, AppleTV and YouTube all work fine with the Apple HDMI adapter when cast from my iPhone 13. Amazon Prime, STARZ and Tubi still appear to be broken, with stuttering picture/no sound. It appears to be an issue with individual apps after iOS16, NOT the HDMI adapter. The programmers for the apps will need to address what iOS 16 broke in their apps.
