Turn off Report Junk in iMessage on iPhone

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before.  I can't locate it, if it has.

After updating to IOS16, I get a Report Junk message when trying to delete a message that is not in my contact list.  The messages that I am receiving that Apple considers spam are notifications from my bank, my credit cards, my doctor, my orders.  I'd prefer not to take the extra step to deny reporting the assumed junk to Apple or ATT.  I can't add these message id's to my contacts because they are not the same all the time.  I don't want them filtered to a spam folder and not be notified because it is important that I see them immediately.  Anything I can do or I'm just stuck with taking an unnecessary extra step.  Thanks for any responses.

I totally agree. It's in a terrible location and I've accidentally selected it multiple times now. It should be in a right-clock and hold menu rather than popping up each time I want to delete an iMessage/SMS. This issue, if not resolved, will make me switch back to an Android in the future. It's that much of a pain.

Yeah, PLEASE provide an option for the user to turn this off completely. While you're at it.

  1. The user should also be able to turn off the App Library screen in its entirety. I don't want to swipe into Apple BS territory ever time I am swiping around my app screens. If you want to really help, add more app screens. When I want it (almost never), I'll turn it back on.
  2. Ditto Notification screen in its entirety. (Two settings, the first turn off notifications globally, and second switch to hide notification screen). When I want info, I'll go find it. In the meantime, don't waste my time with yet another Apple BS screen I have to accidentally swipe into.

Don't use either (well I did delete a third of my apps after seeing how many apps I had that I never use).

Ugh...I am here because I desperately want to TURN OFF THE REPORT JUNK POP-UP. I am afraid I will report an important conversation and then their messages will be shunted into the eather. It pops up at just the wrong place and is a terrible nuisance.

Update to iOS 16.1 and your wish has been granted. Under iOS 16.1, when you delete a message you now have two options.

  1. Delete
  2. Delete and Report Junk

Tap Delete and you are done.

I just reported the issue on the Apple Feedback link. After describing the problem and providing my information there is a mandatory drop down to select what OS you’re using.
Unfortunately the most current selection is 15.7…hopefully all the complaints don’t get routed to the iOS 15 bin.

100% agreed. I like to clean up and keep my message folder short and simple. So I delete message threads all the time. The report as junk makes me worry I won’t receive future important updates because I accidentally marked as junk once… an easy fix would just be to include the different options in the same pop up. That is “delete; Mark as junk and delete; cancel” or similar - I don’t know why they have to be two separate pop up’s…

This is the only thing about iOS 16 that I don't like so far. It is driving me insane because I've accidentally reported as junk at least 3 entities that I definitely did NOT want to report as junk. And I also don't know where to go to 'undo' this action. I'm concerned that I will be blocking myself from important messages. I hope that's not the case, but at any rate, Apple, please please move this interface to another method. Tap and hold, then Report Junk would work, but DEFINITELY don't keep the current arrangement where it automatically brings up the option to take such a rash action and makes it WAY to easy to accidentally do. And don't add an extra step to create a barrier to quickly deleting text threads like this does.

I've read it doesn't really do anything when you report it, just put it in the deleted items. However you can bring it back by going to Edit / Show Recently Deleted.

Having an option to invoke the reporting (like holding down on the message or sliding) would have been a much better idea than making it part of the normal flow of deleting.

Thank you SOOOOO much for your response. I can't believe how simple that was. I have accidentally deleted important texts in the past and assumed they were gone for good. It never occurred to me that an option to recover it would be under EDIT. I can't even tell you why it never occurred to me to explore it. Two days ago I deleted an important text and was devastated. I hadn't downloaded the important stuff from it. I was reading it when several notifications appeared, I swiped to get rid of the notifications and the text was gone. I just now followed your instructions and it was there and now recovered.

After updating to IOS 16, i am required to choose 1) to report or 2) not to report junk on any text I wish to delete that does not have a sender in my contact list. i want to turn this filtering off. I get many legitimate texts from entities that are not in my contact list. I find this additional filtering step to be excessive and overly aggressive and a time waster.

This feature is absolutely horrible. I have accidentally hit report junk so many times. I am looking for a way turn it off as well, but as we all know….Apple knows what is good for us (lol). If I miss a future text because of an inadvertent thumb strike I may just go Android. This could be a gamechanger for me. I get many texts daily from multiple people in different facets of my life. Not everyone is in my contact list. The problem is that if they are it just says delete. If they aren’t then the report junk come up, but I am so accustomed to hitting the delete that I have way too many “oh, s&@(t” moments. FIX THIS APPLE!
