How to fix overexposure issues on iPhone 14 Pro Max Photos?

I purchased my IPhone 14 Pro Max today and it has an annoying over exposure that it does to all my photos. It look very different from what I'm seeing on the screen when I'm taking the photo. How do I fix this to get this automatic over exposure turned off?

If you are experiencing over or under exposure in either the Photo Mode or Portrait Mode, check your exposure compensation (EC) setting, icon below. There is a separate EC for photo mode and portrait mode. If you intentionally or accidentally set this off of zero, the offset will stay until you physically reset it to zero. Any offset will show up in the upper left of your screen with the mini histogram. Click on the histogram to open EXC and reset.

No guarantees, but this may solve your problem.

I was told that it might have been a refurbished one, so I went in - see my post below, was told the way the camera is designed to work. I was also told that the recent update that I did in the store did fix some camera bugs. Unfortunately, this is not a camera bug because I do not think it is a bug, it is the way that it is designed to work, which no one using it in the most common ways that consumers use it like. Complete waste of an afternoon dealing with it. I'm now working with settings and making light in the room as bright as possible, but still a mess.

I'm having the same problem, the post processing or smart HDR or whatever is terrible!!

Way different that i'm seeing in front of my eyes, not even the RAW photo looks good.

And the most dissapointing is the one or two seconds when you see your perfect picture and turns into a horrible overprocessed photo.

And there is no way to turn off that.

I spent a lot of money on an iPhone 14 Pro, because i love to take photos and used to have the best cameras, and i'm super dissapointed.

What the heck? This problem has been here for over 6 months? I'm taking pictures and on a hazy day the sky is so BLUE in my pictures! I don't want what Apple thinks looks good, like an oversaturated Real Estate shot; I'm looking for a really good picture!

I'm spending too much time adjusting the camera, trying to tone it down a bit. It's too much, and it's been too long.

I just switched over a month ago from my Android Pixel 4a and I was excited to be getting a really good phone camera, but it's just too much Apple! Help us out, man.

I'm going to try "Rich Contrast" mode from the Camera settings. It looks more sane than "Standard". But it shouldn't be this insane.

I didn't want to get a Pixel Pro Max because the dang thing is a ginormous phablet. But at least it takes realistic pictures.

I'm getting really disappointed and sadder with each moment. I'll stop typing now. C'mon, Apple.

I have the same issue. I cannot take a selfie in a low-light environment without the post-processing undesirably brightening my face. There should be an option to switch this auto-brightening or HDR (whatever the effect is) off. You can visibly see the post-processing taking effect just after taking a photo. The photo looks fine, then after a few seconds, auto-brightening kicks in.

Light is only one of the horrible problems with this phone's camera. I've posted about the focusing problems as have many people. An honest Apple support person finally said that EVERYONE needs to call and complain over and over again about the camera. I don't know why it hasn't been recalled, and she said that might help. Apparently it's not enough for there to be hundreds of complaints on the internet about this very disappointing camera. I do nature photography and it takes forever to refocus for the next shot.

I guess I want to believe that it’s been helpful to change that HDR to off.. but I guess it’s just wishful thinking..

The pictures are in fact, still very awful 😣

and the interesting part of this whole thing is that I see that there are about 3500+ comments of the same issue but when I call APPLE SUPPORT or talk to anybody at a Store and explain my concern and the issue, all claim that they have never heard about the issue and stick with the fact that this is the best camera

.. makes me feel like I’m in the twilight zone😵‍💫

I bought an Iphone 14 on Oct. 2023. The camera is not good at all. Pictures are overexposed, the color is way too intense, and some details when photographing up close are too exaggerated. Don't bother taking nature shots especially at sunset it will look like psychedelic sky. Have to constantly edit my photos and even then they don't look good. APPLE FIX THIS. these phone are too expensive to have such a poor camera. I have resorted to using my old SE5 second gen for my camera and transferring my pics to my computer to edit. Very disappointing can't recommend buying this iphone.
