Since updating my iphone to ios16 I cannot import my photos on my iMac

This definitely is a bug with iOS16/High Sierra.

I have experienced the problem as well. I have iOS16 on an iPhone 8 and a mid 2010 iMac running High Sierra.

What I found was that I was able to import JPEG photos, but once I tried to import an HEIC photo, I would get the same error message you have described.

From that point onwards, I could then not import JPEGs either, with error message 9937 now showing the HEIC file replaced by JPEG as in "IMG_xxxx.JPEG (IMG_xxxx.JPEG)". Any future import process was then completely impossible for either file type.

I was able to revert back to successful import of JPEG files by connecting my iPad Air 2 which is running iOS 15.6, and downloading successfully by either importing from iPad in Photos, or ImageCapture. Reconnecting the iPhone then allowed JPEG imports again as well. But try an HEIC file again, and back to the problem of no imports of either file.

I have an 2020 iMac 24" as well, so when I connected the same iPhone which was double file corrupted by the above process in the 2010 iMac, I got the same error messages in the 2020 iMac. Connecting the iPad again, I was able to successfully import a JPEG photo (surprisingly I found that you cannot set the iPad Air 2 to capture in HEIC format, and I suspect this is a limitation of the device rather than the software version).

Reconnected the iPhone, and now the import of both HEIC and JPEG photos was restored. Yay working phone import again!

Summary:

1. If you have the iOS16/ High Sierra combination, JPEG import should be OK. If you import HEIC, then neither file can be imported.
2. If you can connect a device running an earlier version of iOS, the import function of JPEG's in Photos or ImageCapture can be restored on the device running iOS16.
3. It seems the iPhone is "corrupted" in the process as evidenced by getting the same error messages on a newer iMac running a newer version of macOS.
4. The iphone can be "corrected" for the newer macOS version iMac however, when procedure 2 is followed.
5. As my iMacs are located 80km apart from each other, I have not yet been able to determine whether the same corrected iPhone will again be corrupted in the older iMac running the earlier macOS software. Rather than risk this all again, I have the luxury of time to wait for Apple to recognise this as a bug and possibly provide a fix. This is unlikely if it involves a fix for High Sierra, but most likely if iOS16 is at fault which this new forum topic seems to suggest.

Nearly the same setup here, Mac Pro 5,1 running Mojave, trying to download with Image Capture from my iPhone 11 Pro Max on iOS 16.02 and cannot download without the error. I can Delete photos, but no imports...

My old iPad Mini2, with the older iPad OS 12.06, no problem, but my wanted downloads are on my iPhone 11PM!

Only workaround, rather clumsy is to use PhotoSync, I bought it, there is n App, plus another on my Mac Pro, it downloads to it's folder, so then move them where I want.. All extra steps..

I await 16.1 with fixes!

Same here, since iOs 16 i cannot transfer pictures from my iphone to my MacOS High Sierra.

I get the exact same error messages than other people on this thread.

I've tried every options : HEIC, JPEG, Original files, Automatic transfert mac/pc etc....

The only work around for the moment is to transfer pictures to my MacBook Air with Catalina, it works fine.

It prooves that this is an iOs 16 bug when dealing with High Sierra

Is Apple working on it somewhere on this planet ? :)

Just downloaded, Installed the iOS16.1 Update on my iPhone 11 Pro Max, and Image Capture works nicely! Maybe even better, but I was able to offload several photos as a test! Thanks Apple!!

Hi, I had the same problem. After I spent whole afternoon chating with Apple support, they couldn't tell me whats wrong.

So I have had download an ipsw file of iOS 15.7 (you can find it on the web), restored iPhone and downgrade back from iOS 16.0.2.

Everything works fine now.

Try this or wait hopefully for a new update.

I have the new iOS update 16.0.3 on my iPhone 12 and still can't transfer my photos from the iPhone to my Apple computer. I found a work around for Apple's problem but they need to fix this ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!

*Workaround: This takes much more time but if you email yourself a few photos at a time. Then add them to the computer this will work.

We should not need to do this. Before the update my iPhone 12 worked like all my iPhones going back to my 4s. You could import all your photos to Photos on my Mac all at once and have them deleted from your iPhone at the same time.

Apple please fix this BIG/HUGE mistake on your part and fast.

Lots of people with the same issue at the moment.

Can you use the image capture app to copy to a folder then import from the folder?

Has your phone definately trusted the mac?

How about restarting in safe mode, then trying?

If that doesn't work, try creating a new user account and trying from that.

It works fine on Catalina on my MacBookAir.

It doesnt work with High Sierra on my iMac.

Same iPhone XS both cases.

Same issue. Safe mode also gives error. Running Mojave (which never had a problem until ios16 was released)

Tried to toggle HEIC to "Most Compatible" but to no avail.

Checked and changed setting to PHOTOS>TRANSFER TO MAC OR PC and error still occurs on both settings even after I restart my iPhone 12mini after each setting change.

Also tried a different USER login and same issue

Kenneth Mclauchlan, on Catalina, normally it works.

But, an update should be released soon. Some users say that IOS16.1 beta 3 fixes the image transfer problem. It will be available in a few weeks.
