iPhone 14 Pro Battery Draining Fast

Anybody have a clue why the iPhone 14 pro battery is draining like a Samsung? My 13 pro and 13 pro max battery was so much better.. I’m lucky to get through the day with the new 14 pro battery!! What’s going on? Is this because of the new always on display?

I own iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Battery life on both are nothing short of amazing. For example it is now going on noon. My 14 Pro Max has been off its MafSafe Charger, since 7:30 AM this morning and my remaining battery is 98% at this very moment.

If your battery is draining faster than you expect, you need to see what is using the battery.

Go to Settings > Battery and wait for the categories to populate. You likely have something running in the background you need to stop running.

You can also Force Restart your iPhone (something you should do routinely anyway) by following the procedure in this support document --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Same story with 14 Pro Max after updating to 16.3. Battery drain increased by 50%: 1% down within every 25-30 minutes. The phone doesn’t live even a day although its lifetime without charging was 2,5 days before 16.3

Apple, what’s wrong with the update?! You waste the customers with the most expensive phones, 14 pro and 14 Pro Max.

Apple, fix the problem.

Just to close the loop on this….I updated from IOS 16.2 to 16.3 and as everyone else has noted, it doesn’t make any difference. It’s still garbage. Battery dropped like crazy this morning playing music over AirPods, not to mention the phone itself getting very hot. Hottest part of the front screen is just “up & left” of centre of screen.

come on Apple!! Clean up your mess.

Many people have commented on getting disappointing daily battery life when using iOS 16. This can often be traced to unnecessary features being activated. If you optimise your settings (turn off unnecessary options and features), daily battery life will be improved. This is especially true of iOS 16 where these settings seem to have proportionally greater effect on daily battery life than previous versions of the iOS. I have obtained 48 hours fairly heavy usage from one charge on an iPhone 14 Pro Max which just goes to show that it can be done.

Turning off features on my phone to make it perform to the level it’s expected is not an option when you pay top dollar for a newer device. Sorry, but I don’t think that’s a reasonable option.

And yes….some people are claiming they don’t have any issues. Which is great!! I’m glad this isn’t screwing everyone, but unfortunately because it’s not a mass issue, it also doesn’t get the focus to resolve that it deserves.

The fact is, the new 14 series phone is underperforming from a power management perspective, which shouldn’t be on the consumer for having miscellaneous “default” settings enabled in the back ground that apple is well aware of being enabled. It’s not like I’m mining crypto here folks. I’m listening to music and watching friggin TikToks here. As a matter of fact, I just dropped 6% battery from just writing this post. Really???

Bottom line is…..Fix The Problem Apple!! Please!!

I absolutely agree with you. And I do think that it’s a mass issue, another thing not all the suffering users report the problem. They might don’t care, don’t notice it etc. But well proper performing on my neighbor’s iphone 14 pro and underperforming on mine or your doesn’t make sense. And if so, normal updating to ios 16.3 is a matter of luck? I don’t believe in this. There should be some major reason which Apple must investigate and then resolve the issue.

P.S. Minus 3% while writing on a brand new iphone 14 pro😡😡😡

Since 16.3 is released I’ve changed 3 14 pro and 1 14 pro max phones (not sure about the color and the size:)) and the same story on all iphones: battery drain increased, battery capacity drops down after reboot. The origin of the phones were Canada, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and some European country. They all ran normal with 16.1 and 16.2. I don’t think this is a hardware iterations. How is it possible? I can’t imagine. I think this is about poor executed 16.3.

My iPhone 14 Pro was awesome with battery life when I first got it in December 22. Now I’m on IOS 16.3 it doesn’t seem the same. For example yesterday I had a full charge before work, I only used my phone once to make a call which lasted 3 minutes and checked a couple of emails. Around 8 hours later it had lost 30% battery, this can’t be right? I have nothing unusual running in the back ground, the always on display is off, only use 4G, haptics are off, no widgets in use, deleted any new apps and I always run my iPhone in low power mode.

How many bars of signal did you have?

Also "just checking a couple of emails" isn't that simple; just do to that means the phone has to sync with your mail server(s) using IMAP and download any new messages. Not a huge amount of data in most cases but it can be, especially if one of the new messages has lots of photos or attachments.

What does Settings -> Battery showed used most of the power?

This is my report:

After updating both of my iPhones 14 Pro to iOS 16.3 next bugs came out:

1. IPhones started to loose 5% of battery per 20 minutes. They don't live more than 1 day without charging

2. After rebooting iPhones loose 5-7% of battery

These bugs never happened on iOS 16.0-16.2. Nothing has changed in daily usage, but battery life decreased by 60-100% on the brand new most expensive IPhones. Please accept this issue and fix this bug. I'm an IPhone user for 12 years and never had any problems. So I wouldn't have reported this problem if my user experience wouldn't has changed dramatically. IOS version 16.3.

It looks like a reasonable report, but you also need to keep in mind each phone is a unique combination of third party apps and the operating system.

As such, there are millions of users running iOS 16.3 who do not see the issues you do.

I don’t think I’ve ever had an iPhone last more than a day without charging, but then again I leave my phone on a charger whenever I am not out and about and expect the battery to drop, especially in areas of low signal and if you have your screen brightness turned up, the number one battery draw on any phone.

If your bugs have merit, they will be investigated, so for now your job is done unless you want to do more to diagnose your particular issue.

Feb 4, 2023 12:17 AM in response to Dogcow-Moof

I want to emphasize again and again that my usage scenario hasn't changed since I've updated to 16.3. My logic drives me to a conclusion that it's not about my iPhone but the issue is iOS 16.3. I also understand that many people don't have this problem but first, they might not consider it a problem; second, they didn't even know the normal battery life duration, so they don't notice anything unusual; third, they believe that they do something wrong with their phone.

I think this problem affects majority of the phones. Miracles don't happen. If someone has a problem with iOS 16.3, it is a problem to resolve. I hope Apple will do its best.

Feb 4, 2023 9:22 AM in response to Valgin

For the millions of users of iOS 16 worldwide not experiencing this issue, what would be your explanation?

Those of us who have been here for over a decade have seen this occur before when a third party app starts to misbehave and use battery when a new update to iOS is released.

You could be right, it could be a bug in iOS, but the data and number of complaints posted to the community so far doesn’t show that.
