iPhone 14 pro max zooming glitch

I recently purchased my iPhone 14 pro max and when I tested out the new camera I noticed when zooming from 0.5 to 1x you see the camera lenses switch, which makes a jump on the video. It is very glitchy and not how this phone should be working, I contacted apple support and they said something is wrong with the phone, but I needed to go to the Apple Store to get it checked out, so I went to the store and the employee said there is something wrong, he even tested his camera (iPhone 14 pro max also) and it was smooth as butter. He replaced my phone and I finally get home to set it up and I am experiencing the same issue! I hard reset the phone, factory reset it, and made sure I am updated to the latest iOS 16.2. any other new iPhone users experiencing this?

I think I found the issue, there is a lock camera button in the camera settings that disables the switching between cameras when recording video. I enabled it and tried to zoom in and it did not glitch. Hopefully this is the solution.

ANSWER:

I’ve looked into this extensively.

I even went to the trouble of booking a repair through Apple care. After dropping off my phone for repair I was told by an Apple representative a hour later (after I got him) that is a known issue.

Apple’s software does not compensate for the skip, glitch, stutter, shuttering, etc. (whatever you want to call it) that happens when the zoom is transitioning from one camera lens to another. Which is obviously super frustrating (infuriating) when you’ve paid over $1,400 CAD for this phone. So I f you’ve planned on using this phone to film it defeats the purpose of even having the phone. Apple didn’t even think to give you the ability to lock the zoom onto one lens in order to avoid accidental skipping.

I haven’t looked into 3rd party apps that can fix this yet. So I’d love to hear if someone has found one.

Very disappointing Apple.

iIwas told by Apple Chat Support to update to 16.6.1 and it would fix the issue. Installed but to no avail, not fixed. Interestingly must be a software issue as when zooming in whilst 'photo' is selected the jump does not occur. Only if you select 'video' or are actually recording a video does it occur. For me it's as soon as camera switches to anything over 3x zoom.

After 2 trips to the Apple Store and being told Apple knows about the problem and will push a fix (I’m not holding my breath), this change in the settings seems to help. I’ll keep experimenting with it.

This problem is new - I never had the problem with previous video zooming. And, as others have mentioned here, when you spend $1400 on your iPhone you don’t exactly expect (or accept) these new issues. It’s a shame the folks at the Genius Bar didn’t suggest the settings change - what an unfortunate waste of my time.

Does anyone know if the 15 is better?

Hello

i had the same issue here, so please anyone have a solution or i have to change the phone

You will need to do whatever suits your use case, but I've played with the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Google Pixel 7 in stores since this thread came out and they both do the same.

I don't think any vendor with multiple physical lenses can solve this issue, there will always be a jump when parallax changes.
