iPhone 14 Camera is Blurry

My brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max’s camera is blurry whenever attempting to take close up pictures in 3rd party apps like Amazon, Target, Walmart (ie barcode scans). Phone is brand new out the box, updated to latest iOS (16.0.2), and have reinstalled the apps.

Anyone else with this issue?

All I can say is I've had iPhones for over 10 years and I've never had the issues with the camera, both native and third-party apps and accessing the camera as I've had now with the new iPhone 14 Pro. Look at the picture attached. I made it this morning using the native camera unfortunately due to the focal distance, the iPhone could not figure out which camera to use and kept switching back-and-forth and ended up with a blurry picture. That is an issue with the iOS that did not exist before this version of the iPhone. I am seriously considering going back to an iPhone 13 as the issues did not exist with that phone.

Nope. Lots of codes just don’t work, I’ve been trying the same one for the last 30mins , moving slowly up and down, to the point where it feels like this is some elaborate joke

unbelieveable that such a simple QR code reading error exists on breaks new tech like this

I should add, the camera can take clearer photos close in, but they don’t work the same as a qr reader obviously

Mate, you can keep saying the same thing over and over, but the reality is there is an entire thread of people here that have an issue you claim to not exist. Apple has even opened a case to look into it.

but hey, you just keep telling us to move the phone back a bit

I've had the same issue on QR codes in 2 venues and a recipe book, all inside the last week, having had this phone for less than 2 weeks

must just be me huh??

Nope.

The very relevant point is: “If you are using [the] camera to read them […]”

If you have to use a third-party app or Safari it does not work reliably.

I repeat: If you have to use a third-party app or Safari it does not work reliably.

I repeat again: If you have to use a third-party app or Safari it does not work reliably.

AND: I was able to scan the same QR code with my old iPhone X in the same app every time. So the code is definitely not corrupted (?), and no issues on iPhone X.

Mostly because I've never been able to make it fail, no matter what app or code I use, and I use this functionality several times per day with no issue, nor have any of the hundreds of others of people I personally interact with with 14/14 Pro/14 Pro Max devices.

If Apple is indeed working an issue, it will be fixed in a future version of iOS and there is also no further action to be taken.

Despite the number of "Me too" clicks that does not actually mean people are experiencing the same issues as there seem to be several conflated ones, or that their third party apps have not been corrected to resolve the issue.

I will continue to offer advice as to how to resolve the issue if you are experiencing it simply because I have not yet been able to get a proper bar or QR code not to read, and any issues with third party camera apps are obviously the responsibility of said third party or resolve.

@ Dogcow-Moof, many apps require a QR code scan from within app to « register » devices. 2 such apps for example Sensibo and Somfy TaHoma fail to scan the QR codes as they bovine blurry ONLY with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Older iPhones and iPads scan fine so I’m sorry to say this is a bug as it is bad business for Apple to not implement backwards compatibility and have their flagship phones fail autofocus and require new code to basically function.

I own an international QA testing company and trust me this I a bug or at s minimum VERY POOR design decision if it forces all apps to require rework to get things working ok again.

Again, the issue is NOT present in the iPhone's native camera app. The issue that everyone here is experiencing, YOURSELF INCLUDED, is that 3rd party apps are not able to use/work with the camera's close-up feature. This was not the case when the iPhone 14 Pro Max was first released. The issue started shortly after release when Apple made a change to the software.
