Blurry pics on iPhone 14 Pro Max (iOS 16.0.2)

I just got the new phone few days ago (for the better cameras compared to 13 Pro Max), and surprisingly the pics quality is blurry!

If I use the main camera when choosing 'vivid' mode, after the pic is taken , it takes 3-4 more seconds to do the post-processing! You can see the pic changing contrast, light etc in 2-3 times during that time interval of 3-4 seconds. The result at the end is not as good as I had with 13 Pro Max - which did the processing WHILE taking the pics and not after...

If I chose the 'standard' mode, the pics are better than in vivid mode, but still if you zoom just a little the details get lost! If you dont zoom, some areas of the pic seem clear and others blurry!

I did everything I could do from my side, cleaned the lens, updated to 16.0.2 as I mention in the title and I dont know what else to do :/

Any help on this please?

Having the same issue, called Apple support. They’re apparently aware of the issue and the software team is notified and “working on the issue”. They also said they’re unable to tell me how long the “fix” software release will be, could be 1 months. Could be 6 months…

also offered me a phone swap but my phone passed all hardware issues so swapping the phone won’t really solve the issue.

My macro photos are once in a while clear and majority of the time look pixelated and ridiculously bad.

anyone else noticed when doing a video or changing lenses the camera will blur out for about 2-3 seconds?? Even when the phone is not being moved at all? Also, if you point your camera at a shot and watch the preview, it will sort of “blink” as if it’s switching lenses or trying to….yes, auto macro is off and I’m well within minimum focusing range.

this camera 🤪🤪🤪🤪

IPhone 12 takes much better photos in my opinion with these photos. Thanks for taking the time to post these. I wish I had my brother in law send me some shots we did during Christmas. I told him how poorly the 14 Pro Max handled photos, so we did our own test and got these same results as you've posted. I also noticed when zooming in on my 14 Pro Max photos everything is just blurry around the edges etc. All this is the same for my wife's 14 Pro Max too.

We should have never upgraded! I'd make the switch to Android if texting wasn't the green/blue low quality photos sending game. Few friends with Android and texting is so terrible we just utilize Facebook messenger to send media to one another.

Feeling like we live in an age where we pay a premium for items and don't receive premium products or service in return. It's starting to get really annoying!

I don’t have much faith in apple at this point and I’m feeling less hopeful that they will fix it. There are bigger names who have put out videos and articles about it so 🤞🏻

but they CAN fix it and reporting it makes them more likely to. I’ve sent a ton of reports and proof of the poor quality photos to them.

also coming from a 13 pro this camera has very similar issues but much much worse. So maybe they will consider fixing it more strongly?

I m looking now at descriptions on apple’s website is all about the camera but if the buyer will really know … ohh is so annoying and I m really disappointed tomorrow I ll go to shop to see what I can do maybe they ll change with another one maybe I ll be lucky if not I definitely return and get back at my 12 pro max … I ll wait for 15 pro max

Completely agree with what you said about the learning curve. And yes google did have similar issues which gives me hope because they fixed them. I’m worried Apple won’t because they are taking so long to address this and may just delay fixing it until the 15. They will be more likely to address it if enough people complain about it, especially people with larger followings.

I hope. Because otherwise I’m stuck with the MOST frustrating camera. And because I know it *could* take great pictures it’s even worse lol

Take a look at the S23 ultra vs Iphone 14 Pro camera comparisons on YouTube. What puzzles me is that even though the S23 ultra wins most categories, the iPhone 14 pro still receives high praise. Are some iPhones okay and others aren’t or are the reviews just very superficial? Noise and extensive post-shot processing are mentioned but not being discussed as the serious issues they are, literally often completely ruining the images taken.

Guys! Maybe some of you don’t know this, but if you download photos from icloud on a PC be sure to get the HEIC version since it mantains the original quality of the picture. You can do this by logging into your icloud account and when selecting a photo you want to download you have to LONG PRESS the download icon in icloud and it will prompt you with the option to download the original quality! If you don’t do this, iCloud ALWAYS downloads the JPEG compressed format and it loses A LOT of quality!

This camera stresses me out too. The people saying " well when you zoom in of coarse its going to be blurry" stress me out even more though. All the photos that are on the phones at the store look amazing. So clear. But the funny thing is, when I took a photo with one of the display phones, the quality was the same poor quality Im getting on mine. Yet they advertise that you can get this great quality. Also, the 48mp is just silly. Theres no way to take up all that space so using it is not an option although that does not change the quality at all anyway.
