I was just playing a game called Asphalt 9 Legends and noticed that my phone got really hot and I asked a friend who was playing with me who has a 2020 iPhone SE and his phone was totally fine. I know that when you play games that requires high resources and a lot of power from the processor is fine if it gets a little hot but this is too much. Is it normal that my friend’s phone is totally fine with the same game, same settings and same time playing while mine feels like it’s going to melt??

So, l got the same phone from a different carrier. It’s a brand new IPhone 14 pro max. I don’t think it’s heating up as often as the other one, but this one does it to. They must be aware of this issue by now. Probably and expensive fix, they think is best to ignore for now. Still worries me health wise. And quite honestly it’s annoying to have your phone that hot while you’re holding it. And Summers not here yet wait til it’s humid and 100 outside.

I just got my new iPhone 14 Pro Max last week. Yesterday I was doing the first back up, I have no photos on phone and “always on” was turned off. The phone overheated constantly (starting about min into backup) Phone gave me warnings the charging will resume with it cools down. This has been reported long ago with no resolution from Apple. I even called Apple, they didn’t seem to know many experience this or have been directed not to discuss. I’ve read it MAY help some by charging with a wireless charger, Apple can buy me one then, I didn’t buy an expensive phone only to learn I’m not the only one with phone overheating. I don’t even have a case for it yet, wonder how bad it will get when case covers it. A small back up took 7 hours and 54 minutes, not sure if related. We have fast WiFi too. I’ll give it another week, if no better, returning phone.

100% disagree. Why then would my brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max (1 week old) gets so hot, that it’s not comfortable to even hold, I’ve had iPhones only and since iPhone 4, never has this happened before. When I was doing its first backup yesterday, the phone kept popping up a message during backup stating the charging will resume after it cools down. My phone didn’t shut down, but obviously if it’s not comfortable to hold (and no case even yet) and the phone itself acknowledges it’s overheating, it’s overheating and not shutting down.

Kizzmee3 , guess I just have to live with the heat, question is how long ? I see a lot of people with hot pro-max 14s complaining and am worried about the life of an extremely expensive phone that might become worthless . I hope I’m wrong, but the response from Apple is it’s nothing, don’t worry about it doesn’t sit well.

I’d consider it a concern when the phone is so hot it’s not comfortable holding it. My 14 pro max sent me pop up messages saying charging will resume after phone cools down, I think that it another concern. Just because the phone doesn’t shut down does not mean it is not a concern. Apple should recall these phones, no software updates are going to fix this, it’s a hardware problem.

I have same issue with iPhone 14 pro and I been advised that it is normal for these iPhones to overheat by apple it self, seems like apple decided to go backwards in quality. None of my previous iPhones had any issues apart this one and I stated this to them then I called, unfortunately apple refuses to take responsibility, so I guess that will be end of my long relationship with this company.

Always been iPhone user had many different versions. None ever got this hot!

Except once years ago when l left one in my car with the windows up. Never made that mistake again. Only when l use 14pm does it periodically get very hot. Like the other users mentioned certain apps make it worse. Also, the first time charging and sometimes while charging now it gets really hot. Fortunately, it doesn’t stay that hot. However, it does stay warm behind the camera. When it really heats hot that is also the main area of heat. Let me add this may be all normal behavior for 14pm version. Does not mean l have to like the new feature. Quite honestly, It distracts from your viewing, listening, talking pleasure and use of the device. So, l said it and there it is.

And let me add just because it doesn’t shut down from feeling hot. Doesn’t make it acceptable. Nor can I imagine that it’s good for the battery health and longevity. Not to mention, possibly what type of chemicals might be activated in the inner working’s of the device, from this type of repetitive heat. Is there something transferable onto our hands, face, lungs, or brains? Do we need to worry about that at all? Some kind of microwave radiation scenario ☢️ just asking. Really disappointing, “Hello” bring the bug fix please….

I agree with, have experienced all of the “ heating “ issues mentioned about the iPhone 14 pro max and it cannot be normal. I think it’s expensive to resolve and is being sold to the customer as is knowing faithful followers will buy them regardless of the odivious issues and not complain and buy the next phone that will come out, hopefully before all the 14s burn out!!!

Apple has sensors in the device that prevent it from reaching temperatures damaging to its own components or the battery under normal operation or to shut it down until it cools if they do.

The bottom line is I get you may be uncomfortable with it, but it's not causing damage to the device.

Same as my Iphone 14 pro max gets overheat and suddenly just come back temporarily cool and then after few days it’s the same issue and freezing sometimes. I went to the customer support service and they examined /updating the IOS after that just observe for another months they told me to come back if another issue but same thing happened…I have to bring it back again in few days to the apple store😞
