One of the main reasons why your iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max is getting hot is because of the use of power-hungry apps. Certain apps use more resources than others, and this can cause the device to heat up. Apps that are known to be power-hungry include games, video streaming apps, and GPS navigation apps.

To Overcome this problem you can do the following

~ Close Power Hungry Apps

~ Update Your Phone to Latest Software

~ Disable Background refresh

~ Use an external fan or cooling device

~ Reduce screen brightness

~ Disable location services

If I may, I believe that it is because it would be reasonable to think that a newer and more powerful cpu would be coupled with a newer and more efficient heat dissipation system, adequate enough to handle the increased power consumption.

If running those apps the way annemiek178 was, makes heavy use of the cpu and gpu enough so that it causes the device to heat up to unexpected levels ( kind of have to assume most people that are here posting have some experience using portable tech devices, thus have certain reference point of mobile operating temperatures ), then it’s more of a device workload performance expectation/ not knowing app resource consumptions. Could also be the device is not operating as intended/built/programmed.

Not sure why you wouldn’t hope/expect your newest piece of tech would operate effortlessly, without feeling heat build up as if it were an older devices struggling to work through newer programming/tech.

You answers in this thread attempt to provide some guidance and help to folks, though there seems to be a bit of dismissiveness and rational detachment as well.

Then maybe you want to explain how an iPhone in flight mode, in the bag -without touching the phone- is so hot and my %100 charge after 3 hours became %40.

So what you are saying is if iPhone didn't close itself. It is fine right ?

Unfortunately it is not. I am using iPhone since iPhone 4. I know it is not. But Apple keeps saying we tested it. And it is alright. I can't even charge my phone with apple fast charger. Phone stops charging due to overheating.

I recently got the iPhone 14pm the first time l charged it. It got really scary hot. And since then whenever I’m on Marketplace or streaming anything it heats up. Especially near the top half of the phone back and front. I laid the phone on my husband while

he was asleep. And it woke him up it was so hot. It worries me because obviously it’s different from my other iPhones in the past.

But also because they say the part that’s harmful to humans with regards to cell phone use is worse when they heat up. It’s just not normal. Probably not good for the phone neither. And makes it uncomfortable to hold on to. When l put a case on it the heat thing will be worse for the phone holding in all that heat, hope it’s addressed and fixed please

I was just playing a game called Asphalt 9 Legends and noticed that my phone got really hot and I asked a friend who was playing with me who has a 2020 iPhone SE and his phone was totally fine. I know that when you play games that requires high resources and a lot of power from the processor is fine if it gets a little hot but this is too much. Is it normal that my friend’s phone is totally fine with the same game, same settings and same time playing while mine feels like it’s going to melt??

So, l got the same phone from a different carrier. It’s a brand new IPhone 14 pro max. I don’t think it’s heating up as often as the other one, but this one does it to. They must be aware of this issue by now. Probably and expensive fix, they think is best to ignore for now. Still worries me health wise. And quite honestly it’s annoying to have your phone that hot while you’re holding it. And Summers not here yet wait til it’s humid and 100 outside.
