My iPhone 14 Pro Max won't turn on

I charged my iPhone before I went to bed and woke up, and it's a black screen and won't turn on. I've tried clicking on the volume +/ - and power button sequence to no avail. Doing a quick online search others are experiencing this issue as well, and is some Apple bug. Not really sure what to do other than having to visit an Apple Store to get it wiped and OS reinstalled. How frustrating..

This is the first time I've experience the issue, the first week I got the iPhone I did experience a power cycle once.

I had the same issue, no power, black screen, couldn't turn it on. What is even stranger, is when I went to look for my iPhone in FindMy Device, it had indicated it had been off for 6 hours which would have been midnight at the change of the month from January to February. My alarm never went off on my phone this morning, obviously. I never received messages overnight, obviously. And if there would have been an emergency for me or from a family member trying to get in touch with me, I would have been screwed. Not sure what the bug is, Apple, but it's a bug that y'all need to get fixed and understood and fast. Missing an alarm to get up in the morning...not the worst possible thing that could happen but it did put a lot of stress on all of us this morning trying to get out the door. The good news and happy ending to the story is that I did the steps as listed, way deep in this forum (which by the way, I couldn't look up on my phone because it wouldn't turn on 🙄), however, the steps worked.

Quick tap on volume up button
Quick tap on volume down button
Hold long side button down for a good minute until the Apple Symbol appears (I took my phone out of it's mag-safe case to do all this since it is easier to push the phone buttons and know you are pushing them when the phone is not in the case.)

I would be interested to know what exactly is causing this strange phenomenon in the new iPhones? Hoping my post helps others and helps Apple to know that is occurred to another person. Thank you.

It took the better part of an hour trying the steps outlined [press volume up, press volume down, hold power button for 1 minute or more], but it finally powered on and so far [knock on wood], it has powered up the two times I went and issued restarts from control center/accessibility screen. WTH???

My iphone 14 Pro Max did the same thing this morning. I think it was my iWatch series 8 that alarmed but my iphone was a black screen. I plugged the charger in because I thought it might be dead but it dinged when I plugged it in. I too was using a Magsafe charger. I let it sit and charge and within minutes it came on but it was completely charged. Scared the heck out of me.

I just experienced this myself. Mine turned back on after the volume up-down-hold power button. Took about 10 seconds for me. Never seen this before either.

Same experience as @queenie213. What finally worked for me was to hold the side button well over a minute. Apple logo finally appeared. Now all is well.

Thanks for the YouTube link. The sequential button pushing reactivated my phone: volume up, then volume down, then an extended side button push (give it up to a minute). What a weird way to get things working again.

I 've had my 14 pro max for one week and this happened this morning when I woke up. It took several tries, but the force restart steps did finally work. I went immediately to the system update in settings and am downloading the 16.3.1 update as I am writing this. Hopefully this issue will not happen again.

This is how it was for me as well. My iPhone 14 pro is exactly one week old. It has never charged to 100%. I woke up to a black screen and tried several chargers before seeing this forum. I tried 4 times and it worked on the 5th. But it had a 100% charge after this! So weird! And a basically brand new phone!

Experienced this same issue this morning. Woke up to a blacked out phone. Found this forum & kept trying to get it to turn on. I did it (volume +/- and power combination) about 6 times before it finally turned on. When it did, my battery was at 79%.

I know this post is 6 months old but clearly this is still working to wake up the phone.

Had the same problem. Charged it right before going to sleep, I woke up today to NO alarm. my phone was unresponsive and the screen was completely black. thought my charger was the problem so I charged another device and it charged perfectly. did the +/- trick maybe three times until it finally worked and generated the apple logo. hope it doesn't happen again.

I woke up to the same $1200 paper weight… black screen that refused to turn on even though I could hear the sounds when I pressed the power button. Thankfully a quick YouTube search on my PlayStation told me to press volume up, volume down, then repeatedly tap the power button (up to 40x) until it turned back on. I currently have a family member in the hospital for a very serious condition, I sure hope nobody tried calling me about him in the past 6+ hours I was asleep. Do better Apple, this is unacceptable. If it continues I might finally switch. I get iPhone because they used to be the best, but seems like those days are gone.

Mine finally decided to turn back on. Try the volume up and volume down and hold start button nonstop for at least a minute.
