Lightning to HDMI no longer working with IOS16 update

I talk for me and all my teacher colleagues… We was using lightning adapters for teaching from iPads with goodnotes app and Apple pencils. It’s no more possible. Go back to old computers… really desappointing…

Of course we did! We use a few generations of iPads, all updated with the last version of ios16.

We all know that the problem is related with ios16.

Apple needs to correct the situation. It’s really frustrating when we invest in expensive equipment and not able to use it.

I too am having the same issue. Have followed the instructions found on these discussions. I guess Apple want their customers to fork out for the more expensive Apple boxes instead of using lightning cables. Shame that Apple creates such limitations for its loyal customers.

Ever since IOS 16 the hdmi has not worked with my iPhone 14 pro max. Even the latest updates did nothing. And 16.1 botched the hdmi connection to my older iPhones. Seems Apple isn't going to do a thing about this.

i Have never had a message like that. My adapter has no memory. Mind you, it works most times with the newest phone update. Not as great as it used to but not to bad. I absolutely loved this adapter and recommended it to everyone. I would not recommend it now

Actually read something earlier while looking at another projector. I think copyright material is restricted so thats why videos etc aren’t working. Try taking a screenshot of a show on netflix or something, thats right you can’t anymore “copyright material.”

I drive a rig as well and this change in policy will send me back to Samsung. Switching back to my Note20 5G Ultra to make sure the Dex app still works. If it does I’ll never buy another Apple product mine are all paid for and I was about to trade in my iPhone 12 until this issue came up…. Crazy marketing not compatible with my mobile life.

Angelbuff.. That’s quite amazing that you say everything working again since you updated.. I updated to 16.6 and hdmi lightening still only playing sound with no video.. If you see something in your settings anywhere that is making it work for you please let us know.. Thanks

Thanks everyone.. but none of this worked for me.. Redid network settings and firmware update is part of general software update which is already done.. Just to be clear my iPhone does work with HDMI connected.. Just can’t get DRM videos to work.. Sound but no picture.. So I guess this is a whole other issue..

What iOS version are you on? After I upgraded to 16 right after buying this phone, and discovering that the new iPad I just bought was still working because it's still on 15.x, I haven't upgraded either. Works fine on the iPad. Phone is still on 16.11. I couldn't find the steps you wrote above but I'm behind on upgrades. And I made sure auto-updates were turned off on the iPad!

I updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to iOS 17 and have the issue described here. I any successful using an Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter with iOS 17. The TV doesn't see the device and the iPhone appears to ignore it. I've tried a lot of the remedies described here but none work.

Hard reset with the HDMI connected didn't work.

The setting in FaceID + passcode is now Accessories but that didn't help.

Thank you for your responses. I'm not sure what is going wrong. I'd been using an Apple AV Lightning to HDMI adapter for a few years. It has always worked well. Now the same adapter on my iPhone 14 Pro Max does not work. So, I tried it on an old iPhone 6S that I had used the adapter on before and now it doesn't work. The 6S phone has iOS 15.7.7. I also tried it on an iPhone 5S running iOS 12.5.7 but it doesn't work on that either. I guess I'll just give up as I don't use it that much and most of my 4K LCDs support Airplay. I've tried it on older HD and 4K LCDs.
