Touch ID unable to unlock Macbook

I have a MacBook Pro, 13 inch M2 2022. I am unable to unlock it using my fingerprint. I have removed my fingerprint and set it up again several times and it still will not work so I am obviously doing something wrong.

I am running Mac OS Monterey 12.6

I have ticked all the boxes, unlocking, Apple Pay, iTunes etc

Automatic log in is set to off

Your password is required to enable touchID comes up when I try to use Touch ID.

Can anyone help me with this problem.

Thank you

Bev
