unable to play audio thru Sony bluetooth headset with Mac Ventura

Headset is coming up connected via bluetooth, however, in Sound preferences there is no way to select it. I've tried disconnecting/reconnecting a number of times. Frustrated...

I have the same problem connecting to the iMac after updating to MacOS Ventura with my Sony WH-XM5s. It appears as 'connected' via Bluetooth, but no audio can be heard.

I've tried:

  • rebooting computer
  • turning blue-tooth on/off
  • turning headphone on/off
  • updating headphone to newest firmware
  • connecting/disconnecting headphone

Nothing has worked so far. It also didn't work with my iPhone.

After some tweaking, I reconnected the headphone via the Sony application, and also turned on/off some of the toggles in settings (ANC, ambient mode, record usage etc). Somehow, it worked afterwards (for both my phone and mac).

Sony wh-1000xm4/xm5 (headset) or wf-1000xm4/xm5 (earbuds)? Have you installed the free Sony Connect app on iOS/iPadOS and checked that application's System setting to determine if there is a firmware update available. That was necessary before I could connect my wh-1000xm4 to my 2021 MacBook Pro running Monterey. It might be necessary with Ventura too.

The aforementioned headset needs that Sony app to configure the same bluetooth device pairing to two different Macs or it remains single-paired.

As indicated its a Sony headset. The specific model is Sony wh-1000xm3. I'd tried your recommendation, downloaded the iOS Sony Connect App, and then ran the "software update" which took about an hour. After that, I still cannot get this headset to come up under "sound settings" on Mac OS Ventura. It shows as connected in bluetooth settings, but, for some reason the "connected bluetooth" device does not show up in Sound prefs.

Note: I have no problem with playing audio from my iPhone to this same headset via bluetooth. So, this leads me to believe there is something askew with the Venture update.
