AirPlay to Apple TV shows a small red circle slash

The video players on iOS 17 don't let you change the resolution from what I can see, can you take a screenshot of what you're referring to?

You need to make sure that your the video you are trying to play via airplay is not on auto format. It needs to be the same format as you Apple tv. This worked for me

the same site works for me later on. It’s an intermittent issue. If that were the case then I wouldn’t be able to stream at all.

the only website I know that doesn’t allow streaming is Netflix. Every other site works but sparingly.

Still stuck with 🚫. Just from one particular App on my Apple phone that has worked fine for years until earlier this year.

Tried the suggestion provided above - changing the TV resolution settings, re-started Apple TV device, no luck. On my phone, there does not seem to be an option to change the settings in the App I am trying to stream from but Apps and websites stream just fine.

After listening to an appletv play back of a Sling TV recording music starts playing. Where is this coming from? I look at my phone, not there, go to my tv and it’s not playing from there so where is it coming from?

I tried every solution mentioned and still get the black screen with a red circle. It’s really strange. It only affects my HD model AppleTV. My 4k streams fine from iPhone. BUT….neither will stream video from iPad to AppleTV. To add to the confusion, on the AppleTV that does have the issue, it only appears with the latest videos added to a site. Anything earlier than a couple weeks ago streams fine.

Escalated to support and an apple “senior advisor” has said that this a problem of numerous websites and not airplay.

It took them one sec to listen to the problem and say “yep contact all the websites you have a problem with”. Like immediately. This is despite saying that it happened immediately after ios 16 update.

I never contacted apple support, but lol. To dare call them anything senior is beyond funny. This is what we’re paying $$$ for?

Any fix for this - all these ppl having the same issue on 16.1.1 and no response from support

Same problem here, other people can stream to my ATV without problem.

Will try 16.2 now and see if it´s any different

I have been having the same issue too for months. On both my iPhone 14 and iPad to my Apple TV. Nothing works.

So it is supported in the video output on your airplay. Just choose the correct output
