BATTERY DRAIN DRAMATICALLY ON IOS 16.1.1

I purchased the iPhone 14 Pro Max the battery was okay not as good as my previous iPhone 13 Pro Max which was a legend. It’s annoying how my battery has been dramatically draining so fast on my latest iPhone 14 pro max after the iOS 16.1.1 update apple should really fix this we were promised a better battery life which should be an hr better then the 13 pro max not lesser by 5hrs it’s barely lasts through the next day when I used to get 2 days of 13 pro max. Come on apple I’m really considering selling my latest iPhone and get last years one!

I went to bed at 11pm and until 1.30am my battery is fine that all of a sudden at 1.30am it starts to steadily deplete, I think when I went to bed the battery was around 90% and at 6am when I woke up it was on 44% so I’ve lost 46% over night with no screen time. Phone is 13 pro and battery health is at 91%

as suggested by another post, I grieved off my contacts backing up to iCloud automatically and my battery is 3X better. I did it just over 24 hours ago and charged my phone 100%. So it’s been a little over 24 hours and my iPhone 14 Pro Max battery is at 52%!! I cannot believe how fantastic the battery life is now. I was ready to return the phone. My brand new phone would be drained from 100% after 10 to 12 hours. I had shut off most notifications and apps running in the background and automatic updates. I spent hours watching YouTube videos and changing every setting to stop the battery drain. One of the few things I left on to automatically backup was my contacts. Turning this off made my phone battery function as advertised. I should not have had to turn this off for my battery to function properly but it worked. Try it and see.

Same problem with me on iPhone 14. Contacted Apple support yesterday and completed a full restore using the Mac. Charged phone to 100% around 12pm yesterday left phone on worktop with no use, checked phone at 8am this morning and battery at 4%. At the minute my phone is a paperweight. Only happened after the 16.1.1 update. Both wife and daughters SE 3rd gens are ruining perfect and they are using them constantly.

I have the iPhone 14. Battery life was great before the 16.1.1 update. Now, It'll have 80% battery, then all of a sudden drain to nothing and shut down. I plug it in and turn it back on, and poof battery life back up to 80%. It did it to me a few times while I was on a business call. Is Apple up to their old tricks and forcing you go out and buy a new phone?

The drain is indeed dramatic.

Dramatic enough to consider moving to another mobile platform.

Thanks appleheadone for finding a workaround.

I guess that the UAT people at Apple rely on actual users to find solutions for what should be the outputs of their jobs. BTW the only reason why I accepted the release is that the phone annoyed me with UX coercion, which eventually left me no choice to upgrade, for fear of being further annoyed. The cost of accepting the coercive demand is having worse product.

Yes agree with others -- this is not acceptable.

Is not the passing of acceptability not a function of the testing team over there in Cupertino? What gives?

Yeah it’s unfortunate that Apple may lose a lot of users over this long drawn out issue, that has no communication on when it will be fixed. Has anyone seen this as a concern from Apple?

I also tried turning OFF my Contacts in iCloud setting and that stopped the draining even more, when paired with the battery optimization work around. So both together seem to make the battery some what close to normal. The 16.1.2 update definitely did NOT fix the battery drain issue.

What a bummer.

Hi everyone, I can’t remember who posted the some sort of a solution, but…it said turn off optimize charging on your phone then use your phone until the battery dies. From there fully charge it back up. I tried this and it semi fixed the issues. Reason I say semi it’s still seems to die faster then before but not as near as what it was prior to trying this.

try it out maybe it will help you too…until Apple decides this battery issue is a major one and have their developers all

over the next update to fix it.

good luck!!

Go to the battery settings & turn off the optimized battery charging, Switch off your iPhones and then turn it back on. Leave it to die then connect it to the charger let it charge from 0 - 100% hopefully it will stop draining I tried doing that and thank God it’s getting back to normal you’ll even notice it on your battery activity. I wish you all the best ! just follow my steps I hope it will get back to normal. If it doesn’t work let’s hope the upcoming updates fixes all the bugs and battery drain issues.

also keep an eye on the screen idle for some reason it’s getting higher then normal

I have same problem on my ip 14 pro. After upgrade to ios 16.1.2, the battery drained badly. Looking at battery usage it said siri used 20%. I turned off siri, then few hours later I checked battery usage again. It says camera took 70% but I did not use camera at all. How come the camera took 70% of battery usage. Apple software updates is awful :(

As of this morning, my phone battery is draining so fast the charger can't even keep up. The power is on, all apps are closed, airplane mode is on and screen is off. Battery still draining faster than the charger can replenish it. iOS 16.11 on iPhone SE 3rd gen.

NOT acceptable Apple. This is a 1 month old phone.

Experience the same problem. Turning off optimized battery kinda works, at least for some degree. Also that I did I close all apps in background and reboot my iPhone. After that, draining while I sleep is almost stops. Pls fix that problem, on iOS 15 I had great battery performance even in my 86% battery health.

Dec 9, 2022 10:41 AM in response to Ddey91

I have an iPhone 13 Pro with 91% battery health -- of which the health of the battery dropped from 98% to 91% after the ios 16.1 update. The past few weeks, my phone has been losing 8-12% an hour and running hot with it just sitting there and not much activity. Actually using it for anything that you would want to use a smartphone for drained it even faster. I have both called Apple "customer service" and visited the "Genius" bar and everything checked out and they couldn't find any issues with the battery or the ios. I explained to both that there are known threads out there describing these issues that many are experiencing, but they had no knowledge about it. Not sure what the point of these boards are if Apple doesn't actually review or assist and they leave their customers to fend for themselves. Pretty poor all around service when they won't acknowledge known issues.

Following the advice of someone else on another thread, I disabled contact sync and that seems to have solved the problem. The problems for me seemed to be around syncing the contacts to iCloud, so I turned that feature off for now. If I find the battery drain has continued, I'll update here. Hopefully, ios 16.2 fixes this issue when it is released next week and we can turn contact sync back on. There should be no reason we have to dumb down these smart phones.
