BATTERY DRAIN DRAMATICALLY ON IOS 16.1.1

I purchased the iPhone 14 Pro Max the battery was okay not as good as my previous iPhone 13 Pro Max which was a legend. It’s annoying how my battery has been dramatically draining so fast on my latest iPhone 14 pro max after the iOS 16.1.1 update apple should really fix this we were promised a better battery life which should be an hr better then the 13 pro max not lesser by 5hrs it’s barely lasts through the next day when I used to get 2 days of 13 pro max. Come on apple I’m really considering selling my latest iPhone and get last years one!

I solved this! The above ideas got me thinking- I turned off Wi-Fi, and kept an eye on cellular data usage per app for a few days.

Turns out the notes app was using 100–200MB/day even though I wasn’t using the app or adding/removing notes. Turning off cellular data for that app greatly improved battery (unless I was on Wi-Fi), but didn’t fix the root cause.

I went through my notes manually and deleted large notes that contained lots of photos or other attachments, which I suspect were having trouble syncing up to iCloud, as I wasn’t willing to turn off iCloud sync. Deleting enough notes cost cellular data usage to drop to almost 0 again - fixing the issue and battery life returned to normal.

Hope this helps others…

When my battery was going crazy and the settings change suggestions didn’t work, I did the downgrade as well using the certified 16.1 that I downloaded and restored using my MacBook Air (I googled “restore to previous iOS for the instructions”). I chose the restore apps from App Store option as well and then my backup forced me to go to 16.1.1 before it would finish. When I finally got back in, everything appeared to be running fine until I made the one phone call and my phone got really hot. I let it sit for awhile and checked for more updates and did a reboot and no issues since. I just updated to 16.2 on Christmas Eve and everything still seems fine.

I guess if you’re having issues you should wipe and restore plugged into a computer. I think it’s safe to backup first as long as you’re restoring from the certified file to fix your OS before restoring a backup.

Go to the battery settings & turn off the optimized battery charging, Switch off your iPhones and then turn it back on. Leave it to die then connect it to the charger let it charge from 0 - 100% hopefully it will stop draining I tried doing that and thank God it’s getting back to normal you’ll even notice it on your battery activity. I wish you all the best ! just follow my steps I hope it will get back to normal. If it doesn’t work let’s hope the upcoming updates fixes all the bugs and battery drain issues.

also keep an eye on the screen idle for some reason it’s getting higher then normal

I think I somehow I resolved the problem. First think I did was to change 5G auto to LTE, afterwards I put the phone in low power mode, then disabled Find My app from useing location, deactivated find iPhone in system services. Then I opened Find My app and deleted Apple AirTag… After that I enabled location for Find My app and activated find iPhone in System Services. After 20-30 minutes I put the phone in normal mode. For now it appears everything as normal. Lost 9 % in 3 hours with YouTube 60 minutes, Waze 30 minutes, Safari 15 minutes, WhatsApp, with LTE and WI-FI. That’s on iOS 16.2. Hope it will work normal.

don't waste time and fuel to a "genius" bar appointment. went there yesterday and they basically blame the drainage on couple background apps and told me i had to completely deactivate them to get it fixed. the best advice i can provide to you is to follow the threads on subreddits iPhone and iOS. Apple will not provide solutions on support before they acknowledge the problem. Try DFU restoring for like 6 times without a backup, heard of some iPhones that got the drainage solved.

My few day old iPhone Pro Max battery barely lasts longer than my XR! I’ve spent way too much time researching every tip for battery improvement and nothing has worked. It’s glitchy at times as well. A couple days ago every time I wanted to close out of the YouTube app in particular I would try and swipe up and nothing would happen. It would take 5-7 attempts to get it to function. I deleted the YouTube app and re-installed, hard reset, power off and it has gotten better but not 100%. I’ve noticed a noticeable annoying lag when swiping up out of any app.

Besides the swiping up not responding or lagging, lagging while using some apps and the battery drain, it’s a fantastic phone. I’m ready to contact Apple and see what can be done. The phone is really amazing but this swiping up lag and battery drain are aggravating.

I’ve lost 2% battery just typing this post!

i have iPhone 11 Pro and my battery also started draining fast two days ago after upgrading 16.1.1, it was very dramatic. I tried turning off the optimize option and rebooting but that didn’t work. I let it die, and fully recharged and it drained again. I also erased and restored to 16.1 but I was forced to go to 16.1.1 during the sign in. But after the restore the drain was much less i thought it was fixed until I made a phone call and my phone got really hot and battery dropped 10% after 5 minutes.

Currently doing the restore to factor settings. Prior to wiping the phone clean, I noticed there was no option to toggle notes to back up to iCloud. I added all notes "saved on iPhone" to new folders to iCloud and the other notes saved to my gmail accounts I left alone. I got the intuition that there is something going on with Notes while I was going through the process. I will try your suggestion after my phone is restored from iCloud.
