Disable "Add New Wallpaper" from iPhone lock screen

The new Change your wall paper from the Lock screen is the MOST annoying addition that Apple has ever created! I try to open my phone and find that the phone wants to change wallpapers! It may be great for some people, but I should be able to disable it in Settings! If I want my phone to look different, I want to explicitly tell it what it should look like! I hate having it assume I want to play with looks when I am trying to answer a phone call, or look up information! How do I make it stop trying to change wallpaper on the lock screen, PERMANENTLY!

I 100% agree- that customization screen has driven me absolutely nuts. As far as I know there isn’t a way to disable it so to speak, but I have discovered a way to make it not appear nearly as often.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Haptic Touch > and then change the Touch Duration from Fast to Slow

Since I discovered this a few days ago I have not had that stupid customization screen come up ONCE! Hallelujah! Other than banishing that annoyance, I haven’t noticed any other change with how I use my phone. I hope this helps! I really hope Apple gives us an easier way to disable it in the future.

Hey there derylh,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, while it would not be possible to disable the prompted to add a wallpaper, if you go ahead and add and then remove the wallpaper afterwards this should prevent the prompt from appearing when waking your device.

For more details on adding a wallpaper to your Lock Screen, check out this link here: Change the wallpaper on your iPhone - Apple Support

1. In the Settings app, tap Wallpaper.
2. Tap Add New Wallpaper.
3. Tap Photos, People, or Photo Shuffle to choose your own photo. You can also select a wallpaper from a category like Weather & Astronomy, Emoji, Collections, or Color.
4. If you want, you can customize your wallpaper further. Then tap Add.

Take care!

I just researched this issue, which I am just having. I see some of these comments and suggestions are over a year old, so just wanted to leave an update on what I have found out (which isn’t much). I tried everything I could mentioned in this thread. Finally, I decided to just contact Apple support. I spoke to the nicest Apple Support people for over an hour , troubleshooting and trying different things (did y’all know they can SCREENSHARE on your phone!!??). But we could not find a solution. I was advised that they would be elevating issue to the engineering department to inquire if anything else could be done and I am supposed to hear back next week (today is Friday.. so next week). I’ll be sure to update if I get anywhere. If anyone in the meantime, has found anything new- PLEASE let me know!!

Done… thanks IdrisSeabright. I sent the following and invite others do the same, just as you suggested. I’d like to reiterate my message verbatim as follows:

I was directed here from a thread over at the Apple Community forum - How do I DISABLE the Add New Wallpaper from the Lock Screen

What this feature does in brief poses a violation of the American with Disabilities Act under which Federal Section 508 standards protect disabled (handicapped) individuals who may have motor skill impairment. This is truly an undue access challenge for individuals. An option to disable this feature is a must due to the timing trigger on the Lock Screen. This is not only problematic for mobility challenged disabled individuals, it also creates a high risk a barricade for any person who may need lifesaving access in emergency situations. Seconds do matter in life or death situations. Make this a top priority to update this feature and add a disable function.

I know there’s no fix, just here to say +1 to everyone who hates this feature. I’m so tired of my wallpaper switching while I’m holding my phone nonchalantly without much pressure. Please for the love of all the things good in this world, give us a disable option. I may have to switch back to the Razor flip.

There's really not much practical point in chiming in here to say you agree. Apple doesn't read here in these user-to-user forums for feedback or suggestions.
