Is there a way to change the CLOCK font on the welcome screen - it is now BOLD & large just after updating the IOS to 16.1.1?
the rest is OK so I don’t want to lower the other front like email or others - just the clock showing the time when you open the phone

Followed @veronicade1's instructions:
Tap & Hold the Lock screen >> "Customize Wallpaper" >> go to "ADD NEW" hit '+' >> select 'Photos' @ top left >> Tap on image from those available to load image >> Tap on time >> select Font and Colour from "Font & Colour" menu >> Hit Save (at top right of screen)
Under new saved Lock screen image and Clock Font, Hit "Customise" to reveal the Lock and Home screen pair.
Tap Home Screen >> Select background from Menu: 'Pair, Colour, Gradient, Photos' to Customise Home Screen >> Hit Save (at top right of screen)
Tap on Lock screen and it expands to Full scree size and you're done.
Please note, my screen cannot display the text at top right, so where I wrote "Save", it might be some other text; i.e. 'Exit'
Yes, I understand that, it’s still NOT the same as the original font. It’s still larger. Besides, if you don’t have the original lock screen Image, you are just out of luck. Nothing is saved. Another oversight by Apple.
If you haven’t already, you can try Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce White Point. That’s how I dim my screen more than just turning down the brightness. Hope this helps!
Absolutely correct to change the font you have to try and find the photo you used for the Wallpaper and do it all over. I agree with everyone. What a stupid idea to choose this font size as a default.

That is what I see as well. The only thing I can change the wallpaper.
It’s really the ISO update 16.1 that made the change on any phone.
Yes indeed - thousands of people are in agreement with you. And as has been stated you can change the font (somewhat) but you lose your current background :-(

I just tried downloading nine different apps in a desperate attempt to get the screen to be extra dim...

I have the zoom on, I have the dark mode on… I have the brightness completely all the way down… I am frantically searching for an app to make the screen dimmer. With the phone almost 90° from my face because I can't even look at the screen. Literally have to wear sunglasses in my bedroom at four in the morning while tilting my screen to the side because I can barely even look at it. It's so painful..

almost a dozen apps, and not one of them makes them darker. All of them just make it BRIGHTER!!!!!

I watched a bunch of videos how to change the font and they do not work on my iPhone 13 mini. When I get to the "customize" button, my ONLY option is to add new wallpaper. This is no way to change the clock font.
Has anyone figured out how to fix this?
I see videos showing the options of different fonts and colors for the clock, but I cannot get to those options. Help!
Obviously the new inclusivity aspects we have embraced have been applied for the sight impaired BUT for the rest of us the font size in APPS can be changed so this home screen time display (for the sake of inclusivity) should be able to be changed BACK to what it was in v15 !!
It’s still not the same as what they have used for years, suddenly they role out this unpolished version that reminds me of what I can’t say. As it gets removed, it’s where bad people go. Or break out!
